Cool, i will try it.. do i have to set the Marantz sound settings a certain way on the 7.1 input .. or just leave everything flat .. trim levels for speakers etc or is there some kind of bypass on the Marantz?

Yup! use both , rca to 7.1 for stereo to hear the Sabre dac's in Pure direct mode but for multi/ch sacd and movies set the Oppo to bitstream and let Audyssey work its magic, now you have the best of both worlds. And believe it or not! if the Yammy was digitizing on the cd input you still have yet to hear how amazing the 105 sounds.

You're in for a treat and congrats! And do have fun

^^^ Do indeed share guys as I'm not 100% opposed to an upgrade as either ticks most if not all the boxes for hopefully a pre/pro to have for a few years( blasted immersive sound) but can can Marantz pull if off again is the question

Ok, i have a chance to get a King Cobra XLR cable .5 meter from Music Direct for a great price (OPPO XLR OUT TO MARANTZ XLR IN).. maybe i should order it now.. but then it won't be here until next week and I am hooking things up tommorow morning.. I wonder how hard it would be to add it back there.. hopefully its not too cramped LOL.. or maybe i should wait and just see how my Diamondback RCA's sound first from the Oppo 105D?

I would see how you like the rca's first and go from there! You got a lot to cover as the 8801/105 combo are stellar together and as things settle in be prepared for some jaw dropping moments of whatever they are playing. The rca's will sound great and if I hadn't had identical cables on hand being the Columbia rca and xlr's I would have known none the better and most likely stuck with the rca's

Looking forward to reading it. When you're done working it out and putting it thru its paces, feel free to send the 8802 up this way for a little R&R.

To be honest I'm pretty impressed thus far with the way Atmos blu's are sounding on the 8801 and that using the 7.1 Truehd track! Maybe they just needed an excuse to do better at mixing

Yeah! but at the cost of reliability and quality The balance is way off these days! Immersive audio should've waited another year or two just to let the video side of things settle, I'm still holding on to my Mits 73738 with a few lamps to keep it a fresh. Once that's settled Audyssey with 6 chips or one superfast powerful one (even liquid cooled for good measure will do) all at a price of 3K

I know I'm dreaming but I'm sleeping in on this one

I agree with Ninja Turtles and TF4 but unfortunately here in Australia Expendables 3 was released with the wrong audio codec and it sounded horrible. Might have to order from Amazon when cheap

Regards,
Ralph,
I'm looking forward to your review of the 7702.
I'm hearing a lot of hype about it being better than the 8801. Its hard to separate what may be a poorly installed 8801 to a freshly installed 7702. I do have to admit, that rerunning Audyssey after a year returns the 8801 to prime audio performance. Not sure what is drifting (speakers, amp, prepro) but I'd suggest that before making a comparison to the 8801, that you rerun Audyssey.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, VideoForge HDMI II, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

Guys...if you want an amazing audio experience, get The Mazerunner. OMG the surround sound audio is one of the best I've ever heard! Demo showpiece from top to bottom and this will be at the top of my list of go-to discs to show off my system. In fact, the audio from above is so good my wife actually asked why we needed Atmos with the immersiveness being so damn impressive on this 7.1 disc. Be sure to check it out!

Agreed Jim. I rerun Audyssey periodically and am confident that I am dialed in on my 8801. We'll see how the AV7702 measures up to the standard of performance set by the 8801 in my room.

Agree. I'm as happy as a clam with my 8801. But that 8802 looming ever large is like the Borg... resistance is futile.

Thanks for the heads up. Never gave this movie much thought. I needed an excuse to go to BBY anyway.
