Bi-amping with the AV8801

I couldn't find the answer to this question, apologies if it is redundant.

I have tower speakers with an active bass section with XLR inputs. Can I set the AV8801 up to bi-amp? If so, how do I do it? What then does "Audyssey Bypass L/R" do? Could I bypass L/R on the mid/tweeter section of the speakers but leave Audyssey engaged on the bass section?

That is:

AV8801-> XLR -> Power amp -> speaker binding posts for mid/tweeter
AV8801 -> XLR -> Powered speaker bass section

Thank you for your help.

No

With an external splitter

It disables Audyssey for the front Left and Right main speaker channels

Out of curiosity... Are there any owners here that compared the AV8801 to the AV8802? I'm curious if the AV8802 sounds (a lot?) better...

I plan on using it for 2.1 music listening mostly. If I hook up the 7.1 outs to a theater amp to use for movies will the zone 2 stereo outs have as good musical fidelity? Will zone 2 integrate subs or do I have to use, say, the balanced outputs to a stereo amp?

I know, I know, read the manual... just a little excited ya know?
Just curious why you dumped the 7702 for the 8801 in the first place? From a lot of accounts, including my own, the preference is the sound and format of the 7702 over the 8801.

I did not dump the 7702. I loved it so much that I got an 8801 in addition to the 7702. The 7702 is in the movie theater and the 8801 is going in the music room. I hope that it works, someone picked it up at an estate sale and sold it untested for $100. Even if I have to put a couple hundred in it it should do fine for my stereo preamp.

The user manual can be downloaded from the Marantz web site. I'm sure you will fine the answer there.

RTFM page 186:

1 Turn off the power using ON/STANDBY.
2 Press ON/STANDBY while simultaneously pressing GAME and SLEEP.
3 Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.

If in step 3 the display does not flash at intervals of about 1 second, start over from step 1.
