Hola,

I'm looking for an integrated amplifier that does 2-channel well. I don't need 5+ channels but I would not mind it. I have gotten the impression that 2-channel receivers are preferred over 5 channel for 2-channel music. However, if there is a 5 channel receiver with stellar sound quality, I'm all ears!

I'm looking for a piece that has the kitchen sink:

phono stage
tuner
dac (usb and spdif)
bass management / variable sub out crossover
remote
tone control
125w+ per channel
pre-out

IF available, I'd also like room correction

Budget is $4000

Thoughts?

that's a poor impression...

you can have ALL of what you want for about a tenth of your budget....

for approximately 30% of your budget, you can also have exceptional room correction...

FYI - An integrated amplifier does not include a tuner. A receiver is an integrated amp with a tuner. You are looking for a receiver.

I have your solution (I think it's at least 99% of what you are looking for, if not 100%), and it's only $700.

I don't think it has an SPDIF input, but everything else is there.

geez, and here i thought you were gonna give the economy a good stimulus... tongue.gifbiggrin.gif

i'd look at avrs if i were you... although it may seem counterintuitive, an avr that gives you "what you want" will in all likelihood be cheaper than a 2 channel unit, and also give you a bunch of other goodies...

for example (assuming there are still some left), you can score a denon 4311 (i'm a denon fanboy these days) for 30% of your budget... that would give you everything you want, including arguably the best consumer room correction available... additionally, you'd be getting other possibly useful goodies...

food for thought, anyway...

of course, we'll then have other suggestions on how to spend the other 70%, since you already have it budgeted... tongue.gif

Depending on your system complexity and patience, and if you value sound over features, a Sherwood Newcastle R-972 with Trinnov room correction might make you very happy.

However there are no tone controls with Trinnov engaged except for a few target curve options, and the ability to change your sub level.

There are two large threads on the 972 in this forum.

y'know noah, i wish i had the patience part, because i would like to try that unit out... i "know" a few others who have gained control of the unit, and their commentary on trinnov is rather positive...

sadly, i would likely end up physically destroying it out of "a/v rage" by the time i got the other "features" of the unit sorted out... redface.gif

Interesting...

So, i'm now looking at the Denon 4311, HK 990, Cambridge Audio 651A and the Magnum Dynalab MD 209. Quite a price span there...
