Great! Note also that although the Troubleshooting guide linked in my sig was written for Denon models, most of it applies to the Marantz models as well. So take some time to review it when you get a chance. smile.gif

can it be done via usb or by connecting a laptop to the avr? I wont be able to connect an ethernet cable that reaches from my avr to the modem and be still able to view the on screen display to follow instructions.

thanks

There have been at least 2 updates .. one to add Spotify and gapless ALAC/FLAC back in Sep and another in Dec to resolve the connection issue with the Pandora servers (although won't matter to you being in Canada) although if you purchased a recently mfr'd unit, it may already have the firmware updated already. There is a setting on the 5007 called Firmware - Notifications (p. 132 OM) which should default to ON from the factory. Confirm that is the case. If there is a firmware update available, a message will flash on the front panel display when you power on the AVR as long as your unit is connected to your home's WiFi router or modem (ideally with a direct cable connection). This is the only way to do the update as there is no USB update capability nor any way to use your laptop.

100' ethernet cables are not that expensive which some purchase just for firmware updates when they don't otherwise use any of the AVR's networking features. You can also connect in other ways as well as noted in the post below ...

I read somewhere on the site that if you are using the ARC hdmi from your tv to the AVR, that it only passes stereo, whereas if you use the optical from the tv to avr you can pass dd 5.1, etc. Is that true?

In most cases, yes, although you would have to check your TV's Owner's manual to confirm.

However, now that I am running all the video through the Marantz via HDMI I am seeing changes to the video quality. There is increased motion blur and a return of the Soap Opera effect. I went to the video settings and tried to make sure that everything was set to zero or off but there are some settings that are always on (eg Movie/Game mode). Any ideas or similar experiences?

2 - Sometimes when I turn on the system I get a black video screen then a message about an incompatible video signal. It corrects itself if I turn the system off then on again but this is annoying.

I would appreciate some help. Thanks!

I just bought 5007 and haven't opened box yet. I also have 70LE732 and wondering if above problem was fixed or still is issue.
70LE732 picture is tuned to my liking and I don't want to hassle with above problems.
Please advise so I can decide to return SR5007 or keep.

Would appreciate any feedback.

The decision to use analog connections and Direct (or Pure Direct) instead of using HDMI with Audyssey room correction is primarily based on emotional issues and personal preference. If Audyssey room correction is working properly, it should be making the sounds provided by your speakers in your room more accurate than is possible without Audyssey.

^^^^^^^^ I understand that thanks.

I will use Audessy for multi-speaker output from movies and tv only.

do prefer analog to digital for listening to music and want to use an amp that provides better quality sound than the avr does when listening to music.

Note that using the stereo analog inputs and the external amp with the AVR in STEREO surround mode, you can still use Audyssey which you may want to try as a comparison with either the DIRECT or PURE DIRECT modes.

This isn't quite how I did my setup. I have a pre-amp in the middle (click on the pic below). It has home theater bypass so the chain of custody for music is:
1. Oppo to pre-amp via RCA
2. Pre-amp to amp via balanced connectors
3. Amp to towers

For home theater, I employee the home theater bypass so any signal the Marantz is processing reaches the main towers but just "passes through" the pre-amp.

I am actually trying to run AB tests to see if I can tell the difference between letting the Marantz play a CD directly and using the RCA hook-ups via the Krell. I have only had everything up for one week and am still playing around. I am not sure what I will keep and not keep yet but so far I am feeling pretty good about what I have.

Visio 2010. BTW, I see an error. #14 should be a single RCA connector on either end, not two at the amp. The amp has a single connector for unbalanced.

Not dangerous for the amp. Maybe dangerous for your speakers. Certainly dangerous for your hearing over the long term.

My system with the emotive xpa-5 with def tech 7002's at -10 is really loud. My other system with a denon avr1713 with def tech sm65's at -10 sounds weak.

Interesting you should mention this. I am the same. I have to turn the volume knob pretty close to 0 for any decent "room filling" sound. When I instead go through the pre-amp for listening, the volume level on the pre-amp is much lower for the same level of sound. Even my old box HT Yamaha receiver did not go lower (closer to 0) than about -20db or so. I am not using the SR5007 amps (except for the rears). Maybe just how the unit is designed?

Unless I am missing something, you are comparing a pair of floor-standers with built-in subwoofer to a pair of studio monitors and find it strange that the first sound louder????smile.gifsmile.gif

Plus, 0dB (or -10db or whatever) does not necessarily means the same level on all amps. dB is a relative quantity by definition, it is not absolute. Have you tried the SM65 with the Emotiva and the Denon with the 7002?

I don't find it strange, just saying it doesn't matter if it's -10 or at 0. It just depends on your system.

It just cause I paid overs $2500 for my sound system (front, sub, amp, center) and I was thinking sound will be much loud than that. When am listeling to music the sound is so loud at -10db.

But when am watching a movie, there is a big difference, -10db is very soft, i obligate to put 0db minimum. The best is 3db during a movie , is it okay? Is it my amp giving not enough power?

SORRY IM A NOOB

It sounds like you have a settings problem. Check to see if you have your dynamic balance turned all the way up?

Is this after running an Audyssey calibration? I've found that on my SR-5007, getting good calibration through Audyssey is critical in getting the proper DynamicEQ curve. With different listening positions selected in different Audyssey sessions, I've found that certain calibration runs have resulted in my speakers really sound quieter. Play around with Audyssey calibration positions, following the best practices mentioned in the Audyssey 101 thread here.

Try setting Dyn Volume to OFF when you are watching movies really loud.

Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem with my SR5007. I have it connected onto my network and I am streaming music from my NAS server as well as using airplay from my Ipad. Everything went fine until 2 days ago when the volume dropped at least by 50%. All other intputs are OK (xbox, blue ray, TV), only network, ipod, internet radio seems affected. I need to push the volume at max to get a half a decent sound. I tried the processor reset procedure without any success. Any idea ?
Thanks

Coun me in as new owner of this unit.So far i'm diggin all the features for I am replacing an Old Marantz SR6200..So alot of features i had to work around before are integrated here.Man did i ever lose alot of cables from my old setup.I was a little worried about the performance when i was doing the swap in my shelf setup.I hadnt taken my OLD receiver out of its location in 9 yrs.The old SR6200 weighs in at 32 lbs.the new sr5007 is a meager 22.5 lbs.BUT nontheless it does a great job with my speaker setup and has great headroom and excellent spatial sound.

One thing i am trying to figure out is the ability to listen to internet radio and at the same time scroll thru the flicker album..probably not able to do this.
Another MAJOR flaw i think mine has is it's HDMI output on the back is super loose, like its just not a positive snug fit.If im working behind it and bump the cable it just falls out.Tried different cables and there all the same. The Input ones are nice and snug..**shrug**

Secure latching HDMI cables and adapters are readily available. A Web search will point you to several vendors.
