That just makes no sense. I thought that was a rumor or speculation. Who would not buy the full version of Dirac? I would say the only reason anybody is even buying this thing is because of Dirac. IMO the full version of Dirac or the limited version is really the only thing going for this unit.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself here but it will be interesting to see how easy FW updates will be with the XMC-1. Hopefully the process will be easier than the UMC-1 and UMC-200.

Your XMC-1 (as in it was your turn on the reservation list and they're asking how you want to pay for it) or is this a general notice announcing that the XMC-1 will be shipping next week?

I got an e-mail that is an announcement of a sale they are having on other stuff to commemorate the upcoming release of the XMC-1. I still haven't seen a mention of anyone on the reservation list getting contacted though.

I got that same email. I found an Emotiva flashlight yesterday in my toolbox while looking for a torx-head screwdriver. First time in years I remembered I signed up to purchase this unit. Hmmm. I must be getting old.

It's similar to the Audyssey model..

Limited is the same eq, just not more than one save, and only one non-editable target curve...

Pro gives you editable curves and multiple save, but is still locked to the XMC and can be used on no other devices..

If I were a customer, I wouldn't definitely try out the limited first.... there might not be a need for a lot of users IMO..

I just spent 15 minutes listening to the latest Emo podcast. The emails sent out today all but say "shipping next week" but thats not quite what Dan said in the podcast. He said the "XMC-1 is coming along nicely" blah blah... Same as I've heard him say about the UMC-1 years ago and about the XMC-1 ----- also years ago! Interesting. The email sent out to 'E' Club members said:

Check out our clearance event celebrating the shipping of the XMC-1! That’s right; the XMC-1 will begin shipping to the reservation list next week. We want to share the love and offer great deals on some of our most popular products:

Looks like several people got their emails saying it is time to pay and take delivery. So, within a week we should start seeing reviews. I think I read that the manual will be available Monday also.

Could you please reformat it so that everyone can look at the XMC-1 test AP data?

Marc (FilmMixer), forgive me for my brief intrusion; are you still using Audyssey MultEQ XT32 Pro?
And if yes, from which SSP, or AVR? ...Or if not, what?

Thank you for your cooperation.

My last AVR had XT32. Never used Pro

I have no system now.

Since I started hearing demos of Atmos in January and knew what was coming, and got their time table in February along with the reflective speaker tech demo, I decided to sell all of my gear when we moved in March.

Pioneer, Yamaha or Denon next. Which ever ships first.... I like them all... Onkyo is out this round. AccuEQ??? No thanks.

The imaging is powerful, substantial - reproduction of some of my favorite recordings show no unpleasant surprises. Actually, the XMC-1 revealed sonic details that I forgot existed."

And this is without even touching Dirac yet. So, just like I stated last night (i.e., EQ features won't necessarily be a key factor for a significant portion of their target market).

Mourning the disappearing usage of the -ly suffix. Words being cut-off before they've had a chance to fully form, left incomplete, with their shoelaces untied and their zippers undone. If I quote your post (or post in your thread) without comment, please check your zipper.

The thoughts posted are pretty intangible, but it's not like this guy doesn't know anything about sound.

Somewhat intangible in spots, but in general, the comments have the tone of someone who is winging it so far, going by purely subjective sensory impressions and hasn't dug into Dirac whatsoever. I'd put money on it.

As far the implication that his particular set of credentials may signify competency for the evaluation at hand, well that would be getting too far afield of the thread subject so I'll leave that one alone.

Dan mentioned in his podcast who he was (a recording engineer) and that he called a meeting after he was using the unit for a while (now we know he's only had it for a week..)

Dan reported that the meeting only consisted of feature requests and button moves on the remote.....

He said Glenn thought the unit sounded great...

The only thing I find suspicious is how Emo stated that they had the units out since April to revisers and professionals, yet the first reviewer Dan gives "permission" to post clearly states he's only had it a week..

"Mr. Laufman gave me the go-ahead to post my thoughts on the XMC-1. I received the unit about a week ago and my first impressions are... impressive! "

Yeah, I'd be curious to know if those are paid endorsements. I also found a video where he raves about the Emotiva Stealth speakers (which I agree are quite nice). If you look at the equipment list in his studio, it's full of Emo stuff.

I should have been more specific, I apologize. The email did not pertain to my XMC-1, it was a clearance sale, but it did state that the XMC-1 would be shipping next week. That is the most information I have received yet. Unfortuatnly it comes a little late for me as I just dropped 7K on a new set of speakers. So, a new amp and pre pro are on hold for a few months. I also apologize for any typos or misspelled words. This damn Apple just loves to correct and add words for me.

I asked Glenn some questions... here is his response (my specific questions in bold)

"How does it compare to prism sound DACs ????

I don't own or currently use Prism Sound DAC's

Glenn.. what was the pre-pro you are comparing this to (i.e. what have you been using to listen to your work?)

For home use, I was using the Emotiva UMC-200. Prior to that, Sony ES product. In studio, Avid HD IO, Avid 192 Analog IO, Avid Omni IO, IZ Radar all clocked to Apogee Big Ben.

And what have you used in the past for listening to consumer content?

See above.

What are your sources and how are they being fed into the XMC?

Kindly see signature below.

And you didn't say if you had run a Dirac setup yet.

Dirac not currently implemented."

Here is his equipment list:

"Emotiva XMC-1 • Emotiva XPA-5 Gen 2 • Emotiva ERC-3 • Polk CS400i Center Channel Speaker • Polk PSW450 Subwoofer • Polk RT-20P Front Speakers • KEF Q60 Rear Speakers • Apple TV • Sony Blu-Ray • Samsung 65" Smart TV"

On another note...

Dirac isn't going to be ready when the units start shipping, nor does it ship with the microphone needed for calibration... they give a time frame of within 2 months.

Guess the first owners will need their own SPL/setup solution..

It seems like Dirac and reflexive speakers could be a problematic combination, since Dirac is designed to cancel out reflections. I presume they will account for this when Dirac is included in Atmos products.

So, no Dirac room correction or remote for a couple of months and you pay the agreed to price. Is that right?

Isn't that kind of like buying a house, you move in and the builder says the bathrooms arent working but we expect to have it good to go in a couple of months?
