I apologize if this has been covered already - I searched but may not be using the correct terms to get the results I'm looking for.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR506 that's a few years old that I've never really used. I had all of my devices (DirecTV box, Xbox, roku, etc) connected straight to the inputs in my old TV. I got a new TV a few days ago and I want to use my receiver now.

So I plug the HDMI cable from the Receiver's HDMI Out port to the TV's HDMI 1 port. DirecTV box goes into receiver HDMI In. Works great. But now I need to connect my Xbox 360. It has no HDMI, it's component video only. So I plug that into the back of the receiver but when I flip through the inputs on the receiver I get nothing on the TV. Is it not possible to plug component in and have it shoot the video and audio through the HDMI cable to the TV?

I have the TX-SR578 and have owned the TX-SR507.

I'm pretty definite that the Onkyo you have doesn't support analog to digital conversion for video.

You will need a component cable running to your TV...

Hi bigbigpig, the SR506 does not convert component to HDMI out, what goes in must come out the same.

I don't think it's possible with the 506. I've got a 508 and it will only send an HDMI signal from HDMI inputs. For component you have to use another compnent cable from the AV receiver to the TV. I'd just connect your xbox to the TV with component and run RCA or Toslink audio to your AV receiver. If you have ARC you may be able to run the RCA to the TV but it won't gain you anything.

Thanks for the replies. What specific terminology should I look for in a new receiver? Is this call upconvert?
