just looking for some help upgrading my home theater system..

its is a process to scratch the itch i guess..

im up in ontario canada..

the denon is 1299 vs the marantz 1999 up hear but from what i can see in the specs there are almost the exact same
except the marantz is 2 lbs heaveir...

i was running mission tower speaker they are 21yrs old and still sound good with a 13 yr old yamaha rx v995 (105w)
the sub port doesnt seem to work i bought a new sub and it didnt work to confirm.. and now the yamaha shuts off when i turn it up
over 1/2 way on the volume.. but still works for movies.... with no woofer i miss the bass...

was also looking to add new tower speakers energy 6.3 v 1500.00 with the energy woofer1000.. would the above avr be a good match would i need more power? with an amp which one how much? mostly movies and some tunes.. will add matching surrond speakers in time just use the old ones for now.. got a budget eh... LOL....

love to hear some comments..

thanks...

There are Denon fanboys and Marantz fanboys .. but are they essentially the same AVR? ......yup. Also, the Energy 6.3 are fairly efficient 8-ohm speakers so should not require additional amplification unless you are in a very large room.

Practically identical. The Marantz has a beefier chassis with more rigidity than the Denon and also has the sculpted faceplate which is a matter of personal preference. I like the look, but disliked the puny display. Actually looked at both units this afternoon...

Would you guys recommend the Marantz or Denon over Sony's top-of the line STR-DA5800ES or even the 2800ES? Yeah I know this aint a Sony thread, but I figure I'd get some input from you guys. I have a minor issue with my current Sony STR-DA3600ES which is annoying. Every once in a while, I get a sound drop out with a random blu ray title. I have a Sony BDP-S790 paired with the receiver using a Panasonic GT30 50 inch plamsa tv. Everything is connected with good quality HDMI cables. It doesn't really matter what title I throw in, but it does it it during random parts of a blu ray disc. It never does this with DVDs. Usually within the first 20 minutes is when the sound cuts off and it does it only ONCE. If the movie passes the 20 minute mark, that's an indication that the rest of the movie will play fine and I will NOT get any audio drop outs after this. Yes, I know this sounds weird, but it's true. Look at the Official Sony str-da3600es thread. A couple of guys complained of the same problem with their ES receiver, so I'm not alone. Make a long story short. I want a good receiver that is equivlent or better than the Sony ES receiver i got now. Marantz and Denon are at the top of my list, but I can't decide which one is best? It's a shame because I already called Sony to complain of the issue and since it's intermittent, they cannot authorize a repair. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Have you tried using an optical cable to see if you get the same dropouts? You're unlikely to notice any difference in audio quality as BDs use a higher bitrate DD/DTS track than on DVDs.

No DSD processing over HDMI support for SA-CD on Marantz. If this is important to you, get the AVR-3313.

Also, the Marantz has a grotesque faceplate whilst Denon is a beauty.

BTW, I'm not a Denon fanboy. tongue.gif

There is actually DSD over HDMI featured on both the 6007 and the 7007.

No, I suppose I could try it, but the problem wasn't there before. I much rather have everything connected using HDMI cables, but I figure since a couple of others have the same issue, the receiver is to blame. Some have suggested that it's a handshake issue. Yeah, I get a handshake when i first power on the blu ray player and receiver, that's normal. Also, at the start of the movie, I lose sound for about 1 seond. I can live with that, but when the audio suddenly drops 4 min, 5 min or even 15 minutes into the movie, that's unacceptable. It ruins your movie watching experience. This is why I am looking at other receivers.

Understood. Just trying to save you some $$ if adding an optical cable will resolve the issue.

For those who want to know, this is the best deal on the Marantz SR7007 I've seen so far:

$1,295 (it's usually $1800). I thought I got a good deal for $1440, but this beats it.

I have been milling over this selection for the last few weeks. Some people saying there are the same and some saying that they sound different.

I listened to both the other day at Magnolia as well as the competing Pioneer Elite.

All three had VERY similar sound. I felt the Marantz and Denon were almost identical but I did seem to think the vocals came through a little clearer in the Marantz.
