I'm using an Onkyo HT-R590 budget system between a Panasonic Bluray and TV. I'm also using it with a media center, an XBox, and a cable box.

Whenever I am using something for 10+ minutes I begin to have handshake issues. My screen flickers, loses signal, and sound goes out for increasing amounts of time. I originally thought this was an overheating issue but my receiver unit is getting plenty of ventilation. I called Onkyo for help and the guy just blabbed to me on and on about how HDCP works. He kept saying the problem must be with my TV.

So my question is this - is it my TV or my receiver and what can I do about it?

Thanks

I had a problem similar to this with an onkyo base model came with a HTIB setup, never could solve it, I returned the whole system and went with a Denon which worked fine on the same TV. Sorry I don't know any more than that.

I bought the unit at fry's and what could be my steps to return if it's been over the 15 days?

Is there some way to get a unit that works from the manufacturer?

Fry's has a 30 day return policy on audio products to my knowledge, not 15.

You have no recourse with Fry's if its been almost a year. You could have mentioned that in post #4 instead of just saying its over the 15 day return period.

Onkyo tech support is your best bet, hopefully you can get a different tech.

Does this issue present with just the cable box or all devices? If the former, connect the cable box (HDMI) directly to the TV with cable box (optical) to the AVR for surround audio. If the latter, then try the HDMI HDCP reset procedure listed in the link below ...
