First off I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but I looked around and this seemed like the best spot to get good answers from you experts.

My current set up is by no means high-end, but it is pretty nice and has always performed well.

Sharp AQUOS LC-65SE94U 65" 1080p LCD TV - 16:9
Onkyo SR-TX803
JBL speakers 7.1
PS3
Xbox 360
Custom built HTPC w/ XBMC

My receiver is dead, I could get it fixed, but it is 7 years old now. I am kind of afraid to get another Onkyo. I had good luck, but everyone I have convinced to buy one since I got mine has had bad luck with theirs. I think I have made up my mind against a new Onkyo. I would really like to know what else you guys suggest in my price range and for what I need.

Must haves:
HDMI in/out with sound
7.1 configuration
Be able to handle PCM
latest True HD sound DTS etc
Video up converting

Would likes:
HDMI1.4 support
Be able to control with Android device
Auto switch to incoming audio format (DTS, DD, etc)
Auto speaker setup
Silver in color (wife:P)

Don't care:
ipod support
Streaming apps

I am willing to spend as much as $600.00, but would not mind staying in the 3-500 dollar range. I would like to make sure it has plenty of power to all 7 channels. The onkyo I am replacing was very nice and I loved it, but I am to leary of all issues I am hearing about/heard of. Anything on the market I would imagine would be an upgrade as that was an early adopter of HDMI and 7.1.

Thank you in advance for helping me out with this purchase. You all did a wonderful job helping me pick out the Onkyo 7 years ago while I was in Iraq.

Chiming in here- I need very similar help. My Onkyo SR706 is dead. I need a good 7.1 receiver and most of my requirements are identical to johnnyrotten's. Was thinking to go back to Yamaha but any suggestions and/or directions to a good deal are appreciated.

"What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?"

It came down to the Denon 1913 or the Pioneer VSX-1122 for me. I finally got the Pioneer VSX-1122 for $349.00 open box from BB. I talked them off of the ledge at $499 original open box price.

How do you find the new Pioneer compares to the Onkyo? I have the same one and it's still running like a champ but I feel I would like to get something with networking capabilities and was looking at the Pioneer.
