Hey I bought the polk monitor 40 speakers while they were on sale. I was looking to buy an amp or receiver etc. and I can't decide whats best to get receiver, integrated amp,pre amp, etc. All i want to do is listen to my music as best I can. My music source is a computer but mostly an iPod I know I know not the best but that's what I got. So basically what system should i buy for good music. This is probably a dumb question but I can't decide whats best.

Do you expect to expand beyond the 2 speakers? What about buying a sub? If yes to both, try getting a Denon 1612 or 1712 on clearance at a Best Buy store (~ $200) and put the savings into a sub (~$300).

** Think the AVR is defective?  Reset the microprocessor 4-5 times.

Your best solution from the standpoint of having a clean install, best sound quality, and maximum expandability is a regular 5.1 AVR. A basic model from one of the mainstream vendors such as Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer, etc, will perform brilliantly.

Any $200 receiver. By the time you are at the quality level of iPOD and MP3 files, the amp can't do much damage.
