I think I've narrowed by choices down to these 2 options (looking around $500), and was hoping to get some feedback and what those with far more experience than me might choose. My understanding is that the Onkyo has more features, but there are some quality control issues; and the Marantz might make up for the lack of features with overall better sound (more musical I've read?).

The receiver will be driving Arx A5 in front, Arx A2b(when it ships) as center, and Arx A1b as surrounds. I've also heard that these speakers would benefit from a high current amp, which the Onkyo would be as far as I know.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Zach

The NR709 does have more features including 7.1 preouts for connecting an external amp. The 5006 only has outputs for the front two speakers.

One thing about the Marantz is it has that little porthole window on front so you're not going to see anything on the receiver display. You'll have to rely on your TV screen to see anything.

I think both receivers are high current amps
