Hello all. I have been looking around for my first stereo receiver and with my budget it seems like I can either buy some new mediocre system or an older, higher-quality receiver with a lot more features. I stumbled on a Denon AVR-3805 for sale in great condition and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? Do these things last a long time since it has most likely been eight years since it was manufactured? Also what's a good price for it these days?

Now that you've found your way to AVS, do a search for threads on the 3085 (like this one http://www.avsforum.com/t/381042/pseudo-official-3805-thread). Forgetting about brand names or whether it sounds good, I think you need to decide WHAT you're looking for in a Receiver. For example, do you want HDMI (that one doesn't have it); do you need to decode newer audio formats found on Blu-Ray discs (that one doesn't have it either)?

If stereo audio is all you need it for the 3805 would likely be a good choice; however, if you plan on a 5.1 setup, you would be much better served with a newer model that uses Audyssey MultEQ.
