I have read most of this forum, the manual and yet I can't seem to grasp exactly how to be in control of the sound field modes on this receiver. In short I would like to be able to set Prologic II when I want but I can't find any simple way to do that. I don't recall ever having this issue with any modern receiver in many years. Can someone point me to a resource that will help or where this might be posted. I know it has got to be something simple I am missing. I have no problems for Dolby Digital, DTS, HD Audio for Blu Rays and Direct Stereo but I just cannot get to Prologic II for music or movie playback.

The DD PLII surround mode would only be available when playing a stereo source as it would be used to simulate 5.1 audio, otherwise with a DD/DTS 5.1 source signal there is nothing to simulate. With a stereo signal playing, press either the MOVIE or MUSIC buttons on the remote and hold them down until the GUI menu pops up to allow selection of the other surround modes.

But if you are receiving a DD 2.1 stereo signal say from an over the air broadcast would you not have the option to convert that to a DD PLII mode?
