Hi all,
I hope someone can provide me with a little direction. I'm finishing a theater room in my basement (22 x 17 x 8) and am trying to put together my first real system. I've spent hours and hours researching speakers, subs, projectors, amps, etc. I've pretty much decided on the Pioneer SP-PK52FS for my fronts with corresponding surrounds and center. I haven't decided on a sub yet, but it will probably be in the $300 range. For now, the receiver will need to run a blu-ray player, PS3 and satellite tv although the satellite tv will not have an HD feed to the receiver, at least for now. All of these components will go out to a projector (probably Epson 8350).

I've made pretty good headway with decisions on everything except for the receiver. I was leaning towards the Yamaha rxv673 but am thinking maybe I should look for a receiver with Audyssey rather than YPAO. The receiver needs to run at least 7.1. Although the 7.2 capability of the 673 is nice just in case, it's certainly not necessary. I'm a little gun shy of Onkyo given the hdmi issues, but am open to pretty much any brand. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The 7.2 on that receiver vs 7.1 is just an internal Y cable. You can add the cable for $3 or less and do the same with any 7.1 receiver.

For an extra $29 over your budget.....go with the Denon AVR-1913. It has the Audessy XT which is supposed to further fine tune the calibration settings for your basement. And as for 2 subs, you can use a Y splitter cable as mentioned by afrogt.

Here is another suggestion....Pioneer vsx1122. It is a 7.2 receiver and has a bunch of features and great sound. Check it out....

Thanks, I'll look into those. Is Pioneer's MCACC better than YPAO? Is Audyssey better than both or are they all pretty much equal? I can get the Yamaha for $500, would you consider either of these to be better than the Yamaha 673?

The Denon AVR 1913 does not use Audyssey MultEQ XT, only has MultEQ. The 1713, 2113, 2313 and 3313 all use MultEQ XT but not the 1913.

Only the receivers with Audyssey MultEQ or XT will EQ the subwoofer. YPAO and MCACC don't on the respective Yamaha and Pioneer models that were mentioned.
