I know. Ridiculous question.
There seem to be precious few threads about Sony receivers here - at least compared with all the Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha & Pioneer entries.

I used to be an all-Sony guy. At least when I last built a home theater system for myself in the '90s.

Again, I realize it's a rather impossible question to answer, but is there a reason why Sony receivers (seem to) have fallen out of favor?

From what I understand, the big reasons were overrated power specs and in house set-up/EQ and video upconversion solutions that lagged what competitors offered. Sony then greatly reduced distribution of their high end ES line. With that said, early reviews of their new DN1030 seem to indicate that many of those deficiencies have been addressed, though the EQ and upconversion are still in house they apparently have performed better than previous version. The DN1030 also has shown plenty of power in lab testing. Whether this type of advancement will trickle down to the rest of the line is yet to be seen.

Interesting. Thanks for the input. I guess old habits just don't die with Sony.
