My receiver is an Onkyo tx-nr609 (B)

What does the "B" at the end specifically mean? I can only assume there is some hardware difference from the original as firmware can be updated. Probably there was never an (A)

I do know that there was a big problem with HDMI board failures on this generation of recievers. In the back of my mind I am hoping that the B designation was to address this issue.

In some other regions, apparently B = Black and S = Silver .... designation not used on USA units though AFAIK.

I just looked at the boxes for the 707 and 818 and they both have little tags with the "(B) Black-Noir" on them. As JD said, in other regions they sell silver versions.
