I am looking to control my music using an Ipad app (vs having a dedicated remote). I wouldnt mind browser access either from another device.

I also want it to be airplay compatible.

Is there something that would fit hte bill, or is this pretty common?

This is from the Pioneer Elite SC55 description

AirPlay is a revolutionary way of enjoying your music anywhere in your home, and the SC-55 is AirPlay compatible right out of the box. Wirelessly push music from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or your iTunes®-running Mac or PC directly to the receiver so you can enjoy all your favorite music in your living room through the big speakers. Use your iPhone or iPad device’s familiar controls to change the volume and switch songs, all while viewing iTunes album art on your TV. And with the SC-55’s multi-zone capability, you can even enjoy your iTunes music in a second and or third room while you’re watching the latest Blu-ray Disc title in another.

I'm assuming the other brands (Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, etc) have like features.

I just bought a Pioneer Elite SC-61 with the same thought in mind. I went PE because from my research I thought it had the best iPad integration. 2 days into ownership and I am pleased so far. It is my belief that dollar for dollar equivalent receivers are roughly the same quality so I went with this.

Good luck to you.

Denon has airplay built in and iPhone app and It works perfectly on the ipad. Also it's a great app and is fully functional unlike the nkyo app.
