Hi guys,

Got a quick question regarding the "FAT" PS3 and playing DTS MA & Dolby TrueHD. I know that the PS3 cannot bitstream the HD audio for the receiver to decode. I have set my PS3 to LPCM, so that it decodes it and sends the uncompressed audio to the receiver. I know that my receiver won’t display DTS MA/Dolby TrueHD.

This is where my question comes in, since the AVR is receiving the lossless audio, shouldn’t it be displaying LPCM or something to that effect?

All it displays right now is “Stereo”, however when I check on the PS3 (while playing a BD) it clearly shows DTS MA or Dolby TrueHD.

This is my equipment in case that has something to do with it. Everything is connected using cat.2 HDMI

TV: Samsung UN55ES7500 series
AVR: Pioneer Elite VSX-60
Speaker: Episode 300 series soundbar

Thank you for the help!

One reason for seeing the Stereo indicator is if that's the playback option you've selected in the receiver. See page 45 of the receiver's manual.

Tried that and the receiver still doesn't show LPCM...anyone have any other ideas? Could it be because I'm only using a 3.1 system?

The receiver will decode the signal being sent to it.

The display should say multichannel PCM or something like that.

Make sure the multichannel PCM formats (eg 5.1) are enabled on the PlayStation 3.

thanks for the help guys...i think it has something with the PS3 cause anytime i load a DVD/BD (and i know these have DD 5.1 or DTSMA/DTHD) the receiver always reverts back to only showing the "Left" & "Right" speaker (even though i have a center channel) working. I'm almost convinced that's why it shows "Stereo" on the front. mad.gif
