Hey guys,

Just got a new 616 set up. Updated the firmware and all seems well (so far).

I have one question. As I surf through the channels on my cable box (FIOS), I can hear relay clicks on the
receiver as it detects different audio formats. I'm guessing this is normal? I can't remember my old Onk 674 doing this.

Yes, its normal but annoying until you learn to tune it out.

Onkyo seem to prefer to use mechanical relays rather than solid state relays. SSRs don't have the best reliability record IME and maybe this is why Onk prefer the solid reliability of a mechanical relay. The downside is, you can hear the relay actuate. Consider it as a normal function of the unit, rather than a fault and it may be less irksome to you.

I've had maybe 10 different receivers in the last 14 years, all of which had audible relay clicks occasionally when fed different audio formats. None failed.
