I am looking to buy a processor for my theater in the next couple of weeks. I am using studio monitors so XLR outputs are a must. Budget is around $1000. I have seen Marantz AV7005 for that price, and I here a UMC-500 is in the works, but who knows when it will be released.

What other options are out there?

There's also the Denon Pro DN-500AV, but that has no room correction.

Anything else I'm missing?

I currently use the Denon DN-A7100 and it is an excellent choice for decoding surround to balanced outputs. Of course the 7100 doesn't decode DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD, but if your player can decode those the DN-A7100 will accept the lossless multichannel PCM stream over HDMI. That's how I have mine set up at the moment. I've used this both for driving external amps and passive speakers, and with Mackie HR824's and the results have been great. I'm very happy with it.

There is the PR-SC5509 from Onkyo, but it won't fit your budget i fear. The same holds true for its Integra brother DHC-80.3
Both use Audyssey XT32 for room EQ.

I understand that it would be nice, but all you really lose with XLR-RCA adapters is a few dB of gain.

Balanced connections are a must to keep noise down in pro audio where you can have 100' cable runs, but hardly necessary for home use
