To keep it brief...I have combed through dozens of av receivers looking for something that will work for my media console

The receiver will be used for an exercise room, TV has only 1 HDMI input and I need to hook up DVD player, Xbox 360, and DISH receiver.

The space I have to work with is 6". I realize there would be a ventilation problem which is why I would use these on top of the receiver over the vents

The blower fans are 22mm high leaving 130mm or 5.1" for the receiver.

Needs
* Under $300 (wife's limit)
* 3 HDMI inputs 1.4
* 5.1 or 7.1 channels

What I have been considering (leaning towards the Sherwood)
* Sherwood R-904N
* Harman AVR-700
* Marantz NR1403

Please help, what is the best solution and no thanks, I'm not replacing my media console.

Due to the limite clearance above the AVR, rather than placing the fans on top of the AVR, you may be better served using them to the rear of the AVR to exhaust the warm air coming from the unit. Can't really make a specific AVR recommendation without knowing the specs of the media console.

that media console doesn't look very deep.

I'd think I'd want more than 3 HDMI inputs just in case you get another device. Go with the Marantz as it has 6 HDMI inputs. don't know enough about the Sherwood unit to recommend it.

Space for the AVR is 23.25" W, 6" H, 15" Deep. So the only dimensional issue on the console is the height.
