I have decided to buy a Denon 4311ci to replace and older Yamaha 7.2 because I need 3d and run 2 subs in a less than ideal room. I have been using a UPA-7 with the Yamaha. I've got alot of options running the emo with the Denon but wondered if anyone had done a comparison listening test to see how the Denon amp sounds in relation to the emo. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks
You may be better served asking in the Owner's thread .... although some owners have noted being able to sell the external amp used in their former setups due to the more than sufficient power from the 4311CI (to include powering 4-ohm speakers as well).
Thanks, I have considered selling except it is such a nice piece. I've also thought of using it and using 2 Denon channels for the 9.2 and then perhaps the remaining Denon channels for other zones. I will have to learn if I can have different zones all with the same source going at once.
I'm not suggesting you dispose of the amp prior to purchasing the AVR, rather simply that these other owners were not expanding to 11.2 (in which an external amp would be needed) and for their setups, found no real advantage to the external amp. YMMV. As far as Zone 2 is concerned, as long as the audio source is not HDMI and if optical/digital coax only PCM 2.0, then it will pass to Zones 2/3. Also the on board network sources and USB will pass to Zones 2/3.
What I would like to do is distribute the radio or my Sonos to my other speakers in the basement as well as th main 9.2. I have 7 other speakers, right now a separate receiver handles this. Thanks for your help.
Then yes, you could use either the Zone 2 or 3 pre-outs on the 4311CI to the 2nd receiver with the aforementioned connections (in addition to the HDMI for the main zone) from those source devices you wanted to pass to the Sonos speakers.
