Hello AVS I have a question regarding beginning tube amps (in my case $500 or below for a new or used) are they even worth it? I have heard that cheap tube amps are just not very good until you get into the $1000+ range and I have heard people who absolutely love their cheap tube amps. I wanted to know AVS's opinion. I am currently running a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 8i through a Denon 1712 and would really like to dip my toes into the world of tubes but I don't want to invest lots of money into an amp incase I just don't like the sound.
Can anyone recommend a cheaper tube amp ($500 or below used or new)?

This is also a dream amp setup for me. Tube amp has certain noise, which really clicks with me. Sometime back I have seen an ad of barebone PC setup with tube amp. I have to search to see if it came into production or not.

You might check out the guitar amps at your local pawn shop.

If you want maybe 80% of tube amp sound for next to no money pick up some 10 ohm wirewound power resistors at a local electronics shop and solder one in series with one lead going to each speaker.
