Hey Im new here. I am trying to decide on a receiver. $500 or less. I am currently looking in to 3 models.
(1) Onkyo TX-NR616

(2) Sony STRDN1030

(3) VSX-1122-K

I have a 5.1 speaker system but do want the 7.1 or 7.2 function. Thank you.

I'm a Denon person this is on sale has Audyssey setup and Airplay. WWStereo is great to deal with also. I've purchase a 1/2 dozen items from them. Including my DenonA100 receiver.

If you can stretch your budget 50 bucks the Onkyo TX-NR717 is actually on sale on NE for $550, and free shipping. I just ordered one earlier today. Deals change fast though, jump on it if you can.

There's a few reviews out for the Sony. Most like it and have good things to say about its audio quality and it seems to be pretty powerful for the price. Plus built in wifi and BT can't hurt. The GUI is rather old and slow and there are reports of it being slow to complete the HDMI handshake when switching sources.

I would get the 717. It's a much better receiver than the 616 and the 1122. Especially since I think Pioneer moved all their models down, the old 1021 is now the new 1122. I'm very disappointed in their 2012 line. My cousin has the 709 (precursor to 717) and I'm really impressed with it.

I also considered a refurbished onkyo tx-nr609. Seems to have what I need. Any thoughts on a refurbished product?

I am sorta in the same boat. But I am leaning toward the pioneer because they look to have the best iOS app.
The 1122 is only 360$ shipped from buydig.com.
