My current setup is a Theta Digital CB3 processor. Dreadnaught2 amp, PSB platinum T8 towers, C4 center, and S2 surrounds. I have 4 surrounds, but only two hooked up since D2 is 5 channels.
I was planning on buying a nice 2 channel amp for front towers, and using five channels of D2 for center and 4 surrounds. After much procrastination building a new house and other things, I was about to finally buy 2 channel amp for towers and finally install other two surround speakers, but wanted some adivce.
One thing that has always annoyed me about the D2 is the amount of heat it puts out and powe it uses. Since I work mostly from home, my system is usually on about 12 hours a day, but just turning off the hard power switch on back of amp made an actual change on my power bill, so even in standbye the amp pulls some decent power. Also, in my new house, I located one of the returns directly above my system rack to siphon off the heat.
Advice wanted on what amp to use with my CB3. I use it 99.9% of the time for Digital Cable connected by Coaxial Digital Audio cable and Optical Digital Cable to CB3 and use whatever sounds better, which is very slight difference.
So basically a 3 channel, and two 2 channels, or a 5 channel and a 2 channel, or a 7 channel amp. Sound quality is top of list, but also something efficient that isn't a space heater is very preferable. I have a powered sub, PSB Platinum Subsonic 10, so I just need amp for highs.
I have been a big fan of Bryston and ADI, but I am open to any brand.
I recently went to put a stereo in my new car and the new amps are all digital, sound great, and fraction of the size of older amps with much more power. I've been a little out of touch with Home Theater market for past 2 years, is there a similiar change in amps like there has been in car stereo?
Thanks for any advice.
