Ok I am ordering Focal 814v tomorrow. I am looking for an amplifier for them. Strictly a stereo setup for music. I am ok with either separates or integrated. And would prefer not to get a receiver style.
Closer to 200wpc the better. As for budget, 1k. But from what I have read here the SQ doesn't change that much on solid state amps very much, so if below 500 works that would be great.

Also integrated may be better if anyone thinks that will work.

Guys I really hate to bump this but I need to find an amp quick. It does not have to be integrated. And I would prefer close to 200wpc, My funds took a hit tho I only have 500 bucks.
I am currently stuck on a Nad 2700 doing 150 wpc. Should I buy that or is there something else?

the difference between 150 watts to 200 watts is minimal just a waste of money imo.

Warning to prevent risk of injuries, you should always be smarter than the equipment you are about to use.

Yeah, I agree with kouack. Also, the Focals are very efficient at 91.5 db and 8 Ohms. 150 wpc would be more than plenty to drive them.

I've got the 814s and they're nice speakers and luckily pretty efficient, because you're not going to find a particularly powerful amp for your budget.

In this price range I'd take a look at NAD, Rotel, Cambridge, Onkyo, and Marantz. The Absolute Sound raved about the NuForce, but it doesn't have any analog inputs. What Hi-Fi likes the Cambridge. Personally, if it were me I'd probably opt for the 75 wpc Music Hall a15.2 http://www.insound.com/Music-Hall-A152-Integrated-Amp-Amp-Music-Hall/P/INS103751/

The music hall is a lot lower power wise than I want. My hk reciever puts out that power. I am looking for something with more power.

If your budget is only $500, I'd probably just keep the H/K and power the Focals with it.

The problem is the hk is being used in a different room for a home theater setup. These speakers are just for music in a different room and I would like something higher power.

Given the efficiency of the Focals, I wouldn't be too concerned with a powerful amp. I'd focus more on quality than quantity, especially since the latter is difficult to find given the budget.

Again, I agree with everyone above. You don't need 200 watts with Focals. Justindo said it best - focus on quality! Besides there are very few integrated amps out there at 200 wpc. The ones that are out there, are way beyond your stated budget. Even used. And I assume we are talking used.

I am curious why you want 200 wpc? If the reason for so much power is to listen at extemely loud, ear bleeding levels, 200 wpc with the Focals is not going to get you there. You bought the wrong speakers.

The reason for the 200wpc was the focal specs list that as their top power rating.
But I followed some advice on here and ended up gettin a Rotel RB-1070. So I will have 130wpc. I am hoping it all sounds good.

Power handling ratings on speakers are a meaningless spec. Its sensitivity and impedence specs that matter. You did well getting the Rotel - it will be more than enough for the Focals. Sounds like you will have a very nice system. Enjoy it.

The Rotel is a good amp and has plenty of power for the Focals. What are you using for a preamp?

No idea what to use on a pre amp yet I will be currently using my HK avr 240 until I figure something out. Most music will come from laptops so I need a usb DAC as well.
