My dad was given a setup from a family member about a year ago and him and I don't know a lot about audio and I am needing some suggestions and direction.

He received what's listed below:

2x Klipsch Heresy Speakers
2x Klipsch La Scala Speakers
More modern Klipsch Sub

then a McIntosh MC150 PreAmp and a Yamaha AX-900U Receiver.

My question is, since I know the McIntosh PreAmp runs 1200-1500 used could I just sell it and then get a decent receiver for him? Currently it's all setup using the AX-900U and I am pretty sure it's an old/outdated receiver and we don't have the MC150 hooked up and it all works fine but there's a little feedback at times. What's the benefit of using that McIntosh PreAmp?

What's a decent receiver that would power the speakers with no problem, or what should I look for when purchasing a receiver?

I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH. Would that be something I should just give him and upgrade myself? Would that power the speakers fine?

Specs on Pioneer Receiver:
Amplifier Design Direct Energy
Surround Power 110 Watts x 7 (20Hz - 20 kHz, 8 ohms, .09% THD)
Stereo Power 110 Watts x 2 (20Hz - 20 kHz, 8 ohms, .09% THD)

no, everyone hates you for getting mac and lascala's for FREE.

lol, jk.

if they dont mean anything to you, pass them on to klipsch or Mac fans thru craigslist or audiogon, and get a modern decent yammie, pionneer, denon receiver // and a speaker set up like paradigm, energy, def tech etc..

and call it a day.

if you stick with the La scala's set up, a decent receiver with above 10 watts will power them fine (dont worry about power with Klipsch).
