Amazon has the 475 for $450. A far cry from the $179 for the 373. Personally I would get the 373 and a 3d wifi blu ray player with built in apps for about $80 and still save $190.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

The 671 also has internet radio (Pandora, etc) built in.

Ok boys (and girls if any), I just talked to Yamaha and here's the scoop.

The 673 and the upcoming 475 do have the manual eq which we already know (from the responses) and they will both do Pandora.
Will I ever do the Pandora thing? Who knows but I'd like to have the option.

I've looked around and I can probably get either model for close to the same price new.

So, looking quickly at the specs, the obvious reason to get the 475 would be the 4k pass through if I ever want to watch pics or something
which would require a 4k tv, right? Considering the prices, I doubt that I'll ever need that.

Can you guys comment on which you would prefer and why?

Thanks

George

It looks like the 673 has 4K pass-through and upscaling. The 473 has 4K pass-through. No need to wait for the v75 line if that's your only concern.

It's not but it was the only thing I saw from a quick look.

Apparently the pioneer 1122 also does what I want.

So, yamaha, pioneer or?

The cheapest Pioneer that has the manual EQ option is the 1122 which is around 350-400 right now. Is that what you're talking about?
I'm asking 'cause I know that we have different opinions of what's cheap or not.

That's the one I was thinking of as low-mid price set . The more expensive ones are even better.

Ok, but what am I paying for a receiver that has manual EQ?
That's harder to find than the pandora option which I CAN live without.

At this point, I've looked at so many options that I don't remember which one does what smile.gif

I forgot how much it was but I just looked it up.

If I can get the 1122 for 100 bucks more. Which would you recommend?

The 1122 even though I dont really care for Pioneer. But youre not going to get it for $279 unless you have a friend selling a used one.

Yeah, I remember but I have been a little confused lately with all this stuff.

So, the 373 for 179 or the 1122-k open box for 315? Is the pioneer worth that much more (DISREGARDING the Pandora...just the unit itself)?

..and the Yammi has longer warranty

Not to me. If you really want a nice avr without a lot of fluff then its a no brainer. The 373 is already better than what you were describing that you wanted....except for Pandora. And about all the 1122 has over the 373 is better room correction (which you said you didnt care about),its 7.2 instead of 5.1 and it is a network receiver. If any of those are really important to you then that may change things. But thats basically what you are getting for the extra $135.

Here's a question guys. If I get one of these, can I use this one in between an AV receiver and an external Equalizer in order to connect the two together?

Thanks

I don't see a role for that, unless you're planning on listening through headphones. How are you envisioning it being connected?

Really the only way to use an AVR with a separate EQ is to get an AVR with preamp outputs, run that output through the EQ, and then into a second amplifier. And at that point it'll only EQ your main speakers. AVRs are built to rely on their own EQs and software, and that's about it.

I just got an open box 1122-k from newegg and that damn thing's got way too much bass and now I have to figure out how to set it up.

The Denon had on screen setup but it doesn't seem like the Pioneer does...?

Alright guys, I thought I'd post an update.

I gave up on the Denon and ordered a Pioneer 1122-k

Well, I plugged everything up and it worked like charm...but wait, there's more.

I turn it off and the next day, I turn it on and I get sound but NO picture from the dish source.

I have to unplug and plug the cable back in again. This happens just about every time.

Pioneer blames it on the cables and said to go and look for hdmi connectors that are a little thicker.

Now, IF I don't unplug them, why the hell would this happen every time?

Mind you, it COULD be that I'm somehow messing everything electronic up with my magnetic field or something, but I don't know.
I DO know that I have so much stuff happening I never get a chance to use my stuff and I call my house the Twilight Zone but if this is
not going to work, I'll just call it quits and go back to my analog Denon which always worked.

The Pioneer was an open box so I'm sending it back, hoping there IS something wrong with it but now I have to find
another one where they have full return options. Newegg had new ones for just a few dollars more but now they're out of
stock and the model has been discontinued. I can't seem to catch a break.

Maybe I should try a Yamaha (Yammi smile.gif and see how that goes but dammit, I'm tired of this frown.gif

Nice stuff, but now we're going up in price and I'm not even sure if I can get THAT one to work with my stuff either frown.gif

Hell, my requirements are pretty simple I think but I keep having to step up to much more expensive receivers simply'
because I want a manual equalizer option (well, that and the pandora option).

I only have two speakers, I will not be needing any of the high end stuff that comes with these and frankly, if I could go with
an older unit that has an option to hook up an external equalizer but still had hdmi ports, I would do it but no luck there...

I ordered the Yamaha 373 so we'll see how that one does...
