I know, I know....that question has been asked a dozen times in multiple threads. But we all know each set-up has its own considerations. I would appreciate some help finding what best fits my needs. Here is my set-up:

Room: 15' x 20'
Projector: Panasonic PT-AE4000
Screen: 100"
Front speakers: Energy RC-10
Center: Energy RC Mini
Surround: Energy CB-5
Sub: Premier Acoustics PA-120 12"
Blu-Ray: PS3

I had a Denon AVR-2310 running the show, but either a power spike or lightning took it out. What I found was that the Denon had more bells and whistles than I really needed.

I only really need a 5.1 system. This is my third house and third home theater room. None of the rooms, including the current one, are really set up for 7.1 sound. So I think I'll always be at 5.1.

I only have two devices input into the receiver with HDMI (PS3 and a HD cable box). Realistically, I think 3 HDMI inputs would be plenty.

One HDMI output is all I need for the projector.

I do like the Audyssey MultEQ XT feature to help me set it all up.

I would like around 100W per channel.

I was getting pretty excited about a Onkyo TX-NR616. The price looked great and my first receiver was Onkyo (8 years ago). But the reviews have just really scared my with the issues people have had with Onkyo recently.

So I am fine with Denon. Never had a HK or Marantz, but would consider either with a recommendation. Not a big fan of Pioneer, but again would consider with a recommendation.

Mainly the system is used for movies and PS3 gaming, a little TV watching. Not used much for just pure music.

So what is the most current recommendation for what I need.

Thanks!

Try the Harman Kardon AVR 1700. It is 5.1 and can be had for $300 online. I have not listened to this particular receiver but have owned HK before and liked them. I have a more expensive NAD receiver now and love it, but in your price range, I think HK might be the best deal.

Currently, the Pioneer Elite VSX-53 is on sale/clearance at Magnoila in select Best Buy stores for $499.98. It was $900.00. I bought one for the living room and may get another to replace my Onkyo 875 in my home theater room too.

I posted this at Bluray.com :

Thanks for all the ideas. I am currently looking at this short list...

Sony STR-DN1030
Denon AVR 1713
Denon AVR 1913
Pioneer Elite VSX-53

The Pioneer SC-1222 looks a bit higher price than I'm ready for.

Comments on this short-list?

Some receivers allow software updates that fix bugs and add cool features and some don't.

Just something to think of........Good luck.

Did you see my posting #3 in this thread ? it has a link that compares the VSX-53 to the SC-1222. And the VSX-53 is ballpark $50.00 cheaper than the SC-1222. If not, look at it and compare those two, and the VSX-53 ( IMHO ) is the winner.
Of the four you have on your short list, I would say Pioneer Elite first, followed by the either of the Denon's. For me personally, I'd leave out the Sony. Nothing against the Sony, but I believe that the Pioneer Elite & Denons are better products.
I have many Sony products, but none in the home theater catagory. The Pioneer & Denon recievers have a nice warm sound.

I did follow your link for the comparison. Problem is, I can't seem to find the VSX53 anymore. It went on a great sale at Magnolia but I think they are all gone.

Any hints on finding it?

Thanks

The Pioneer 1222 is $549 right now on Newegg but goes on sale for $529 all the time. I got it for $480 with a special they were running a few weeks ago.

I personally like Denon, especially the 1713 and 2313 which include MultEQ XT (the 1913 only includes MultEQ). But that deal on the Yamaha 773 looks interesting.

I've never considered Yamaha before. Been more of a Denon and Onkyo person. Any comments on the Yamaha RX-V773 at NewEgg. The price looks good and the feautre list looks strong. Anyone know anything about their calibration software?

Wow, I searched all over Georgia area, and came up empty. The Magnolia site gave this phone number, maybe that will help. Call 1-877-643-9682 to find the nearest location.

My nearest Magnolia is in Mission Valley, which is part of San Diego, CA. Zip code is 92108 and it shows they are in stock.
When I bought mine on March 11, the salesman said they had 35 in stock at that time.
Maybe they can ship one to you. It may be worth a call.

A little above your budget, but maybe you'd consider the Pioneer SC-1522-K (same as the Pioneer Elite SC-65) at Costco for $599. You won't outgrow the 1522.

I just ordered one. Great price.

Thanks for the lead, Gus.

Recently, I have had a chance to see the Boston Red Sox win two World Series and the New England Patriots win three Superbowls. Not bad eh?

Order it on Sunday, ships on Monday and it is out for delivery on Tuesday (today).

That's my idea of quick shipping.

It will be running tonight.

I'm glad I stocked up on bannana plugs:D.
