Planning to buy a new AVR (probably Onkyo) for a 7.1 FH setup.

The 1st question would be Bi-Amp 5.1 or Front High 7.1?

But the major concern is all my speakers have different ohms, and I wonder how's that affect the amplifier?

The Front L & R are 8 ohms, Center is 12 ohms, surrounds are 6 ohms, Front Highs are 6-8 ohms! Obviously, the amp is set to use 6 ohms speakers.

Is this a bad idea?? If so, how bad and why?

cheers.

I don't know of any problem with mixing speaker impedances. I have 3 4ohm speakers (L, C, R) and 8 8ohm speakers all powered by a Pioneer SC-1522-K AVR.

Hi GregLee,

thanks for the reply.

Do u set your amp to 4 / 6 ohm setting, or stay at 8 ohm?

Best to just leave the amp at the mfr default setting as lowering it will simply limit the current flow. The amp will shut down in protection mode if there are any excessive power draw issues, although not likely to be the case without 4-ohm speakers in the mix.

My receiver doesn't have any special 4 / 6 ohm setting.
