Try it with your factory remote. If it works correctly just teach the correct power on command to your universal.

Thanks.

I was using the discrete power on and off codes that I used with my 4308. Are there discrete on and off codes for the 4000 anywhere?

P.S. Just tested. You were correct. I guess I can get by without the discrete on/off functions.

2. Anyone test the 3rd HDMI out for Zone 2 yet, what are the setup options?
3. Is airplay still audio only?

Thanks.

This IS the owners thread. I mean, the word "owner" is in the title of the thread.

1. You've been lurking but not really reading then? Start with post #1 wink.gif
2. No real options for it, it's just a matrix switch. Same as in the 4520 and 3313, feedback had all been positive with owners there. I would check those threads since people have been using the feature with those models for months, whereas the X4000 has only been out for days.
3. Yes, apple doesn't license airplay video streaming to non apple products.

Note that for the past 3 years, we have combined all the Denon lower/mid level models into a single thread which for the X4000 would be this thread. The replacement for the higher level 4520CI will get it's own thread.

Note also that your best bet for streaming video via Airplay is connecting an AppleTV to the unit.

I probably shouldn't be telling anybody that's for right now there is an unused openbox listed on Amazon. It is a 2313 for $480. That is by far the best deal around. I call them it was not a demo unit like it says it was not a display. It was sold in the guy never even put the batteries in the remote. So that tells me that's not bad news and of course since it's an open box they did a bench test and everything works just fine. I really want it but I just bought one from Best Buy and on Amazon I cannot use any financing. And I can afford to pay it off in the next month. So somebody out there better snatch that up before I change my mind. I believe it's the last one listed on Amazon. It is for AD with no shipping you just can't be that. If you get it please tell me so I know someone who deserves it got it

The only problem with the current thread name is if Denon uses the "X" in the 4520ci replacement. Then this thread name would need to be changed.

Speaking of the 4520ci, as batpig already stated the binding posts are better in the 4520ci vs the x4000 (yes I am restating it). The overall fit and fished did seem a bit better on the 4520 I might of kept it but flashing red light (POST LINK) made me send it back. The x4000 did NOT go into protection or flashing red light mode.

Thanks for the information. I did not realize it was a combined thread for all of the new models. I will do some more reading from the first post.

There used to be separate threads but it's sort of pointless considering how similar all the models are. There are slight feature differences but the "basics" in terms of setup, settings, troubleshooting etc. are the same for all the models. When there were separate threads it led to a lot of redundant information and questions. There is nothing so fundamentally different about the X Series vs. the E Series that requires a separate thread to be created.

I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it tongue.gif

Did you pay MSRP? Every time I called them to ask about pricing, they wouldn't budge on the MSRP. Just curious to know if they did any better. Got my from AVScience! Man, I hate tracking ground shipping. It's so painful.

Are you sure you did not short a channel when you hooked up your speakers.

Crutchfield does not price match or generally budge at all.

I'm not in that big of a hurry. Plus I love their customer service, I have Amazon gift cards to use up, and I like their 0% financing (I like to keep cash in investments for as long as possible).

Unboxed!

X4000 vs. 2113CI:

Might not be able to tell in that photo but the X4000 has a much nicer front fascia. Not just the flip-down trap door, but the face itself has a brushed aluminum texture (although I still think it might be plastic) and looks higher quality than the plain black plastic face of the 2113CI.

Installed in its new home:

The Setup Assistant and GUI overall are really, really improved in terms of usability. Not the layout per se, but the wording is much clearer (plain English!) and settings seem to be more logically explained. The Setup Assistant specifically has a really cool thing where it walks you through Input Assignment, asking you about your components and even doing a little test preview to verify that inputs have been assigned correctly.

Although I probably won't use it much (since input switching is automated by my Harmony), InstaPrevue is pretty cool, really slick and well implemented. It just works, and it's not clunky or annoying. I actually took a crappy iPhone video of it which I will link to.

I also verified that the Video Select works as advertised, I fired up an Airplay stream and then used it to watch a variety of HDMI video sources while listening to the music uninterrupted.

Here's a snap of the new INFO button display:

X4000 immediately recognized as an available Airplay speaker:

Streaming working perfectly. I have the AVR hard-wired to the router for what it's worth.

Denon iPhone app found the X4000 without any issue as well.

Ok that's pretty sweet, InstaPrevue and Option button on the cursor controls in the iPhone app:

Just tested and works perfectly, you can easily activate InstaPrevue PIP and flip between two HDMI video sources using your smartphone. Or change picture modes or engage Video Select. Neat, now I can be so lazy!

I dunno. With all you and JD do here, the words "Batpig" and "Lazy" don't really sound right in the same sentence.
