Did you install the recent firmare update as it may have been a result of that update?

Hey thanks for your response! I haven't installed the firmware update yet, so I would think it would have remained the same.

Is it possible to change the sound mode in any way other than using the hand held remote? This doesn't seem possible through the onscreen menus, and it also doesn't seem possible on either the iPhone or iPad remotes. I can select "DTS Surrounds" on the iPhone remote, but there's no way to toggle between Cinema, Music, and Game modes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys, I couldn't find a clear answer on what cable to use to connect the denon E400 receiver to the mlt2 subwoofer. The receiver has a single out and the subwoofer and a red LFE-In (Right in) and a white Left In.

Do I use a standard Dynex Subwoofer cable to connect the receiver out to the LFE In, or do I use a Dynex RCA stereo Y cable to connect the receiver out to the red in and white in.

I also found a cable on amazon by KabelDirekt Pro Series Subwoofer Cable Y RCA cable / Digital Cable, RCA male to 2 x RCA male. That appears to be the same as the other Dynex red/white cable, only much better and more shielded.

Not sure how to proceed....as always thanks for the input and I'll throw the same post on the sub forum.

Thanks

Ok I answered half....the dynex RCA stereo Y cable with the red and white do not connect into the receiver. That leaves whether a different Y cable, or only one cable is appropriate.

The $5 IOS app 'DeRemote' works wonders. Well worth the price.

As for mode toggles, I believe JD pointed out in past messages that not all modes are selectable across all input formats.

That's a terrific app. I use it for my older Denon 4308. In fact, what I was looking for was functionality similar to what's on the "Surround Effects" screen in Deremote. As far as I can tell, there is no way to switch between Cinema, Music and Game mode using the Denon official app.

The Android AVRRemote app can also cycle between these modes as well.

Seeing that picture up above it reminds me my 1712 had modes when I selected music it would show like 5 different options and you'd keep pressing it to scroll down. Even though it had "dolby digital" when I switched from movie dolby to music dolby it seemed different. As if maybe the music added a slightly delay or echo. But with the x4000 hitting music switches to stereo only. Are there other options than that and what do I press to get into them?

Yeah, that was your imagination. Dolby Digital decoding is the same either way. Unless you are mistakenly meaning to refer to a Pro Logic II Cinema vs Music mode. (Eg expanding stereo to 5.1 or 5.1 to 7.1)

A single RCA cable running from the receiver's subwoofer preamp output to either of the Left or Right RCA inputs on the subwoofer will work just fine. Using a Y connection usually results in double the signal voltage getting to the subwoofer's internal amplifier, but that doesn't make any difference in the quality of the audio (unless it boosts the signal to where the sub's input is saturated).

So I'm wondering if I need to re-run Audessey or something. Once I was done with the XT132 setup I broke out my trusty ratshack SPL and try to set the speakers to the reference 75dBs. I could barely get them to 60 before the adjustments ran out. These are no slouch speakers that's for sure.

I had the SPL on C fast, the speakers are all matching Wharfedale Evo gen1 (40s for the L/R, a CS and 4 10s at the rear), with the L/R and CS pre-amped out to an Emotiva UPA 5 amp. My old 805 had no issue getting them to 75.

I do admit that I ran the FW update between the aud and SPL portions, but I don't see why that should be an issue, especially as the X4000 knew it was already set.

Any ideas? Should I re run it? Is that actually OK and I'm being over jittery with an open box unit?

Help calm a guy down here.

Turn the volume to zero /reference or if using an analog meter (Radio Shack) turn it up to +5 and calibrate to 80db...
D Bone likes this.

Unlike older Denon units the new X series models do not default to full reference volume when you start the internal tones. So as Tom says you need to manually set the volume to 0.

I must be being extra thick this morning as both of those replies were as clear as mud....

The Denon is currently on about 50. So where do I set it to 0?

Mits 73835, Denon X4000, Emotiva UPA5 (triggered), Wharfedale Pacific Evo 40s, CS, 10s, the internet, a NAS drive, a TiVo Series 3 and an Oppo 103 (bye bye PS3). There's also a Wii, but we don't talk about that...

Set it to 0 using the other volume scale(db) or I think you need to set volume to 80 using the scale you are using.
