Issues with Denon X4000…still

First quick question to knock it out of the way…
Is it possible for the Denon to send non-bass signals to a subwoofer when the subwoofer is plugged into the correct jack on the recvr & set up correctly on the sub side? My sub went out & it seems like I can hear non bass noises through it but not positive. Just curious if my Denon could have messed up my sub. I will need to take it in for repair regardless. Could just be a bad board or whatever.

Second & main issue. Quick history. Purchased the X4000 in Sept 2013 from Accessories 4Less as a refurb unit. After about 6 weeks it kept going into protection mode & shutting down. I checked my speaker wire ends & troubleshot as best as I could. Finally it wouldn’t come back on at all. I took it into an official shop for repair (per Denon instructions). They replaced the HDMI board. Got it back. Since then I’ve had 2 ongoing issues & they are driving me mad. I am upset to have spent $1k (that is a lot for me) to have such an issue-laden piece of equipment. Issue #1 ) random speaker static. This is just so sporadic that I cannot troubleshoot it. I’ve unplugged each & every speaker hooked up & found nothing. Still static. Finally I wiggled the speaker posts (I do use banana plugs) & it gave feedback type cut out noises. Some of the speaker posts are definitely loose. Someone once said that I shouldn’t get any noise from wiggling the posts. Finally last night I rewired everything with brand new 14 gauge Monoprice speaker wire. This time I bypassed banana plugs & went with straight wire into each post. Turned everything back on & now I get random static, some cut out, & even a type of muting for a few seconds from time to time. I made sure no strands were touching & it appears they are not. Should I go back to banana plugs? Can the speaker wire in any way touch the back of the receiver at all?

And my 2nd big issue & also quite annoying is that I get a click & sound field change while watching cable TV. The click noise is fairly apparent (same sound the recvr makes if you are changing sound fields in the middle of a movie) & then it almost always clicks again & goes back into the sound field it sound be in. Yet it’s so quick that I don’t see any different sound field name come up on the recv face. And it’s so random. It could be during the middle of a commercial. But it happens often & is very annoying & very sporadic. Should I bypass the satellite TV box perhaps? What in the world is wrong with this unit? So frustrated. I almost want to sell this cheap, give up & buy something different.
Thanks everyone!

What in the world is wrong with this unit?
Kinda 'asked and answered' there. For stuff like this I've never found refurbs worth the bargain.

1. Possible? ..... yes. Normal? ......no.
2. Sounds like your X4000 does have issues. Refurbs aren't always fixed when they are returned if the repair facility cannot produce the issue on demand. The risk you take for a lower cost option.
3. Click sound is normal.

Any other suggestions? Pretty bummed about the refurbs being so finicky & the need to replicate the issues but does make sense. Any suggestions on loose speaker posts & static, etc? Is there a way to tighten them from the inside?

While watching IN and OUT movie. Notice that when i play in 5.1 it says DTS HD HR. Then changed to 7.1 it says DTS HD MA. I only have 5.2. Wonder which one is better? And what is the DTS HD HR?

AFAIK, the DTS HD MA file holds more information, while the DTS HD HR is used when there is limited space on the BD, or in this case, apparently for the 5.1 audio.

My AVR-E400 updated its firmware this morning. Does anyone know where I can find a firmware update change log so I can see what's new?

Firmware version on my AVR-X4000 changed from 5530-8776-1673 to 5630-9776-1611.
Still no changelog for the new firmware on Denon website.

Got it from Denon:

Changelog of AVRX4000

last updated 12.11.2015
************************************************** ************

12.11.2015
Firmware Vers: 5630-9776-1611 (DZ15-061, AVR-X400BKE2 )
1) When the customer connects the iPod/USB or Media Server to the AV Receiver and music is played, the product did an unnecessary access to server of the Last.fm. Therefore, when the Last.fm server, failed, playback of music from the iPod/USB and Media Server stopped.
Symptom is the AV Receiver accessed to server of the Last.fm while playing music on the iPod/USB or Media Server.
2) When the AV Receiver receives the signals other than POWER ON by Remote controller during standby, the AV Receiver reacts and Standby LED lights up and after 5 seconds lights off. (The AV receiver doesn't work.)
Symptom is Standby LED on AV Receiver lights up needlessly during standby.
3) When the customer is playing contents of DD+ signal of the Netflix Stream with the volume at position of "00dB" by AV receiver, the noises of high pitched "screech" or "chirp" might be heard from the speaker at random. (The noise is especially heard from the speaker of the Surround Left channel.)
Symptom is unnecessary noise is heard from the speaker.

I posted this on the harmony ultimate thread but maybe someone here can give me some pointers. on my old denon 1909 I had an activity set up so that when I didn't want surround sound, I could still watch tv "through" the denons hdmi. Since getting my x3000, I haven't set that back up but I need to now. I believe I just need hdmi control set to On in the x3000.

Do I need to do anything else in the x3000?

I can't remember if there was something else to do within the activity but I know that's not for this thread. If anyone knows and wants to PM me, I would appreciate it.

The X3000 has a setting called "HDMI Pass Through" which defaults to ON with the "Pass Through Source" defaulting to "CBL/SAT" so you're good to go out of the box.

thanks jd. For some reason I had my terms mixed up (hdmi control, etc.)

I'll peruse over to the samsung 7150 tv thread becasue I get a message saying my tv is set up to use external speakers. Which is exactly what I want 99% of the time except in this scenario.

HDMI Control defaults to OFF and no longer has to be ON when using the Standby pass through feature.
