Not fully. It will pass through 4K, but not from a HDCP 2.2 source which most 4K streaming services require. It does not work with my Sony FMP-X10 which is HDCP 2.2.

Are people able to do 4k@60hz from their pc through the sc-1522? I'm really hoping I don't need to upgrade my receiver as well when I get my 4k tv later this year

I've passed 4k@60hz from my PC through the 1522. But the 1522 is gimped without HDCP 2.2 as basically all streaming 4K movie services and upcoming UHD BD require it.

I have a question for you all. I have this AVR right now setup in 9.1 with the follow speakers:

FRONT: DT BP7002's
CENTER: DT C/L/R 2002
SUB: Klipsh SW115
FRONT HEIGHT: DT ProMonitor 100's
SURROUND: DT ProMonitor 100's
REAR: DT BP2X's

All except my FRONT/CENTER/SUB are ceiling mounted pointed to listener.

I am thinking about getting new AVR but not current on what is out there. Without spending a ton of $$ what would people suggest and why?

At that price point just by getting Audyssey XT32 will be an improvement over MCACC. I had the 1522, and went with a Denon X4000, and the XT32 and SubEQ is an improvement over MCACC.

At the $1800 price point, I would suggest the Marantz 7702. If you have the money, I would go with the Marantz 8802A, but that's almost double the cost of your budget.

There's also the Denon X5200 and X4200 as well. Denon and Marantz are pretty much the same company. Denon is a little less expensive. Then if you want to save some money and pretty much get everything Denon and Marantz offer on their higher end AVR's you can go with Onkyo.

Then you've got Integra, NAD, and others. I would also suggest to look at accessories4less.com. A lot of times they've got brand new AVR's Denon/Marantz on sale with 3 yrs warranty.

So i have a 1522 and I currently run a 7.1 setup. I am looking to expand to dolby atmos and another sub possibly. What would be a newer pioneer that can handle this setup?

From their Elite Line: SC-99 (9.2-$2,500) , SC-97(9.2-$2,000), SC-95(9.2-$1,600), SC-91(7.2-$1,000), VSX-90 (7.2-$700)
From their Mainstream Line: VSX-1130-K (7.2-$600)

So does adding height speakers to an existing 7.1 setup produce similar results to Atmos? If not was is the purpose of this setup? It sucks these companies wont release firmware updates to handle new sound formats. The SC-1522-k is a fantastic 9 channel amplified AVR receiver it is only missing the software to do a 7.1.2 atmos configuration. It looks like many of the new AVRs other than the 1000+ dont have the built in amps to do a 7.1.2 config fir atmos.

Does anyone know if Pioneer is planning to release a firmware update to address SiriusXM streaming on this unit? Apparently SiriusXM updated their streaming protocol a few months ago, rendering old receivers unable to stream the channels without a firmware upgrade. Yamaha has already released a firmware upgrade to fix this problem on their receivers (I also own an Aventage RX-A1000), but Pioneer hasn't.

A receiver that originally retailed for $1600 should be getting a bit more support.

It retails for $600 now lol. They might release an update. You'll be better off contacting their tech support.

I'm glad you brought this up, I've been trying to connect my cell phone to no avail.

Any tips on how to best connect my cell phone and play music from it without relying on purchasing a separate Bluetooth dongle?

I have hundreds and hundreds of songs saved to my phone and astro/g.drive but can't access them. I've had to use Pandora to get streaming but now without the firmware upgrade im Sol.

Best part about that firmware upgrade again will be saving it from computer to a thumb drive versus direct download that was a chore last time.
