i have the pioneer vsx-1022 connected to my tv and ceiling speakers. my question is can i watch video (say a sporting event) and listen to music (ipod/pandora/radio) through the speakers at the same time?

it would be nice to do this when having people over for a party or get together so that the you can keep up with the football game on tv etc. but still have the party music going instead of the sporting even audio?

thanks!

connect your cable/sat box directly to the TV with component video.

or

Connect your cable/sat box directly the TV with HDMI and connect an optical cable from cable/sat box to receiver for audio.

the audio is the same for HDMI and optical when using a cable/sat box so you wont be losing anything.

Either way you'll be able to use whatever input on the receiver you want while watching TV.
