I noticed that I could sell my Denon 1312 for $130 or so and then buy then buy the Denon 2113 for $300! So the upgrade seems worth while to me... just looking for some opinions on what people think about the 2113. It has 7.1 (which I think would be a cool option. I haven't never heard a 7.1 system before, but it's gotta sound pretty cool when watching a high budget film! I also see that is has more power output, more HDMI ports, 4000k ultra HD (which I have no idea what the hell that is or what TV supports it).

So off the bat, I would imagine the extra power output would help against the sub (the rw-12d packs some punch!) and then I could add 2 new speakers to complete the 7.1 And I read that the multi-xt auto calibrator thing is great to use in a situation like mine (high ceilings and a lot of room on both sides of the speakers... which are also next to walls). I also don't see any features in the 1312 that the 2113 does not have. What do you guys think? Is the $200 spent worth the upgrade?

Yup. 1312 has no auto EQ and no networking while the 2113CI uses Audyssey MultEQ XT and is networking capable. In addition to giving you the option of 7.1 in the main zone, the 2113CI also provides the option of 5.1 in the main zone with Zone 2 speakers in another room (eg. patio, deck, office, bedroom, etc.).

The AVR-2113 is a great receiver. Where can you get the 2113 for $300? Is it new, and from an authorized dealer?

So then it seems it's really worth the upgrade? :-)

What about taking a Denon 4308CI for $600 over the $400 2113? hahaha Sorry! But my friend is selling his 4308CI in near brand new condition with everything that's included from factory.

The 4308 is definitely a higher end model with more features.

It does lack Airplay, 3D passthru and Pandora streaming that the newer models offer but the 4308 is way more powerful and has dual HDMI outputs if you need them. Plus Wi-fi.

Here is a professional review of the 4308

Did your friend do the firmware and feature updates and upgrades?

Thanks. That's why I was surprised to see OP's price. I had considered refurb, but there are quite a few posts here of people having to return refurbs, sometimes multiple times. I'll hold out for new, or else at the slightest hiccup, I'd forever be doubting whether my refurb was truly fixed. For that, the price delta is just not worth it to me. Oh, when will the 2113 replacement be announced? :-)

All updates have been done on the 4308CI. I don't use 3D although it would be nice to know it's available if needed. I don't use the wi-fi or Pandora. I don't even use the Denon for music. I guess I could if it were possible since it would probably sound much better than my computers Z5500s. But it's not a huge concern.

So does the 4308CI sound like the better option now?

With updates and upgrades in place I'd get the 4308 for sure! Its a better overall receiver.

I think I will go with the 4308... :-) 7.1, more power, same options, but less "apps" and marketing software I won't use anyway! Plus it's the last copper built receiver from Japan (from Denon, or something like that).

I also might be getting Definitive Technology Bipolars for surround! BP2X's. Guys have any experience with those?

I figure the 4308ci will need some speakers to handle power
