Building a a semi-low end system, I'm leaning toward the Denon AVR-1913
What kind of speakers should I get with this AVR? I just want to setup 5.1 with Zone 2 in living room or back yard.
I can spend around $500 on the lot of speakers sub and all.

Onkyo TX-NR616
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_580TXN616/Onkyo-TX-NR616.html?search=Onkyo+TXNR616&osp=onkyo+tx-nr616&tp=179

Denon AVR-1913
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_033AV1913/Denon-AVR-1913.html?tp=179

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Determine your feature/input/output requirements and then make a decision. The Denon offers better audio fidelity as it can EQ the sub as it uses the more advanced version of Audyssey MultEQ vs. just 2EQ on the 616. The Energy Take 5.1 speaker/sub setup makes a good matchup and can be purchased as a Monoprice branded setup ....

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10906&cs_id=1090601&p_id=9774&seq=1&format=2

They also have an even less expensive 5.1 setup, but it uses a much less powerful sub, although would work in "smallish" rooms ...

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10906&cs_id=1090601&p_id=8247&seq=1&format=2

For more information on the Denon AVRs to include setup/troubleshooting tips, review posts #1-6 in the 2012 Denon link in my sig.

Thanks JD, I have actually looked at both of those speakers setups. I don't know if that's the best I can do but it might be enough, my room is about 12X12 I really want the thunder of a nice sub! Have you heard either or all of your suggestions. Thanks again.

Neither, but given your goal, you might want to consider instead purchasing the Energy Take 5.0 setup (w/o sub) and then purchase the sub separately with both of the suggested purchases below being under your $500 max budget (ie. if I'm reading your post correctly in that the $500 budget only applies to the speakers/sub). smile.gif

Yes you are reading right, $500 for speakers but $1000 total budget so if I pay less for the receiver then I could put more for speakers!

That setup with the 5.0 and sub sounds interesting to me, I like it!

So I want to mount my speakers from the ceiling and point them down to me, is that ok or should I make them ear level?
The rear speakers kind of need to be up in the corners of the room but I could leave the fronts sitting on the entertainment center which is a little below ear level. I want to place the SUB behind the couch, is that a bad place? will it reverberate up from behind and give me a weird sound or box it in and I'll hear where the bass is coming from?
The TV will be mounted on the wall with full tilt swivel.

Thanks again.

Owners often have to make do with non-ideal room configurations as you may have to with your setup. That said, the FL/FR tweeters are "ideally" placed at seated ear level so you may want to consider placing them on stands while the "side" surrounds in a 5.1 setup (as rear surrounds are in a 7.1 setup) are ideally placed about 2-3' above ear level and either directly to the side of the couch or just slightly behind, although you do want them even spaced from the main listening position so you may want to bring the SL speaker closer to the end of your couch and place it on a stand as well rather than in the corner of the room as you currently have it positioned.

I think this is a pretty good strategy of the sub and the receiver, although since he still has money left in the budget, I would probably go for some Polk 35 or 45's and a matching center.

BTW, the Klipsch sub is on sale until 4/8 at $280.

Nice I didnt even realize the polks could be had for that little, Got lazy and just kept the main 5.0 setup from the original post.

OP,

The sub & receiver I mentioned + the speakers Bladerunner6 mentioned you will have a kick a$$ setup that retails for twice your budget.

Ok this is getting crazy!

Alright I picked these up at Fry's (I know Fry's?) and I'm setting up a small man cave in the garage... smile.gif

MLT-1 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System
http://www.martinlogan.com/products/mlt1 for $199.99
http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads/2013/04/05/61421/Martin-Logan-5-1-MLT-1-Surround-Speaker-Package
Sound great so I'm happy, what do you think?

Back to the house

So you guys like these

Polk Audio New Monitor 35B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290268
Polk Audio New Monitor 25C
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290274

over the

Energy Take 5.0
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-43JFHmlJAnT/p_732TAKE50/Energy-Take-Classic-5-0.html

I'm assuming the Polk's blow the Energy's out of the water?

and you like the
Klipsch RW-12D EMCXSXV78 code is not working, must be a glitch.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780078&Tpk=RW-12D&IsVirtualParent=1

How about this?
HSU Research STF-1 Subwoofer
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-1.html
Recommended by brother-in-law who is my real go to for Tech/AV advice!

So the Polk's and the Sub and the AVR-1913 are still going over budget.

I think I like the Polk's and the STF-1 and the AVR-1913 it's all around $1100 +/-

Do these sound promising?

Thanks again!

I have a code that could get you these Polk Towers instead of the bookshelfs for almost the same price.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=82-290-271&nm_mc=EMCPB-042013&cm_mmc=EMCPB-042013-_-PB-_-Item-_-82-290-271

I bet if you bought that Klipsch SUB for $299 you would get the same code that gives you the above towers for $278 Shipped ( FOR THE PAIR ).
Would come out to like $527 for 2 towers + sub..

Decisions & Budget I know but figured I would share regardless.

I would love those but I don't have room for them, very tempted though!

What do you think about the Martin Lawrence speakers and the STF-1 Sub?

The Martin Logan looks good for the price ( not sure what it sounds like but im sure pretty good esp for $199 since it says MSRP 999 ) is this a seperate
system from the $1000 budget system you were looking to price out?

STF-1 has 100w RMS Im sure its decent but you could have the Klipsch thats 325w RMS RW12-D for the same price and is pretty much un-touchable in this price range.

I think you maybe still best off in the price range your looking with the Energy 5.0 setup + Klipsch Sub. If your goal is still under $1000 for all I think this combo
would give you a good bang for your buck.

What about in regards to Power for the two receivers. I have a set of Kef 3005 and want to make sure I give them enough juice. I have a txnr515 currently but am returning it due to the second zone left channel not working.

You may want to check out Yamaha RX-V673, it has more options then the 1913, more reliable then the onkyo and its less expensive than both currently on Amazon. Also they have a sweet return policy if you dont like it. Yamaha is known for their warm sound and smaller speakers sound great with them.
357 and free shippings the best I have seen it sell for.

quiksr20 ya the Martin Logan MLT-1 is a separate setup for the garage "man-cave"

Pulled the trigger on the Klipsch RW-12D, $300.99 out the door!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780078&Tpk=RW-12D&IsVirtualParent=1

Now I'm thinking on the Energy Take 5.0 unless we can find something a little better and beat them at no more than $250
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ON1ugXJtJk6/p_732TAKE50/Energy-Take-Classic-5-0.html

I do like the Yamaha RX-V673 but the price I see is $414.99 not 357 wish I would have seen that, I'll add it to my cart maybe in a couple days they will lower it smile.gif
http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V673-7-2-Channel-Network-Receiver/dp/B007JF85WE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I still like the Denon AVR-1913 for 399.99 I don't really want to get the refurb for a lower price, kind of don't trust it.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_033AV1913/Denon-AVR-1913.html?tp=179

I had a Yamaha as my first "grown up" stereo probably 25 years ago, worked great and never a problem!

So the Sub 300, energy 200+tax and AVR for 400+tax = $950-1000 pretty close!

Denon 1913 and Def Tech pro 600. Its a great combo and you can try to haggle your dealer into selling both for $1000. You can't go wrong with this setup (awesome value, and SQ).

Yea the receiver changes in price, noticed that yesterday. It went back to 357 this morning and around noon moved to 400. I been using this site. http://camelcamelcamel.com/ you paste the amazon URL into the search and it graphs out all the cost changes for that item. Very fun and useful tool.

For a 5 speaker set that is better than the energys ( and a tiny bit larger). You could go with polk monitor 35b's, four of them will run you only 200 the 25c center is only 129.so
357 for receiver +300 sub + 330 that's right under a grand. You would have to get wall mount book shelf speakers and the center is not small but it would sound great. I have 35bs in my mane media room as rear surrounds but had them hooked up to a 2 channel amp for a few days and the sounded great.

Im on my 3rd factory refurbed unit over the last 8 years from Accessories4less never had 1 problem but thats fine let us know what you
get and post the final configuration.
