I used my Denon as a processor, i was wondering which Denon receiver now would be worth replacing my 3808ci. I like the Audyssey processing so a newer version of MultiEQ would be great.
If another reciever with like processing like Onkyo or another one would be a worthy contender let me know.
Onkyo, Integra, Marantz and NAD all provide Audyssey. The highest grade of Audyssey, MultEQ XT 32, is provided by a relatively limited number of models, though. The least expensive is Onkyo's 818 (about $1K) The only current Denon receiver with it is the AVR 4520 (about $2K). It has pre-outs, so you can use it as a processor. Or there's the Marantz AV8801 pre/pro, which lists for about $3600 but can be had for less.
The current successor to your 3808CI is the 4520CI, however, you may be able to find the 4520CI's predecessor, 4311CI which also uses XT32. Give Mike at avscience.com a "call" for the current price.
