The AVR should display either "DSD Direct" or "DSD Multi Direct" if the Oppo is bitstreaming the audio to the AVR to decode, or it will display "Mult CH IN" when the Oppo is decoding it. A setting likely got changed in the Oppo. smile.gif

You just remember it wrong. It's all clearly set out in the Manual p.72.

Audiosceptics accept audio trials using 25 people. A recent Oxford study with over 353,000 patient records from 639 separate clinical trials shows for every 1,000 people taking diclofenac or ibuprofen there would be 3 additional heart attacks, 4 more cases of heart failure and 1 death every year.

I have the 4311 and have played many SACDs with it. I've never seen "SACD" displayed on the 4311's display. I see DSD Direct or DSD Multi Direct if my 103 is set to DSD. If my 103 is set to PCM then I see Stereo/Direct or MultiCH on the 4311's display. I would say your memory is playing tricks on you wink.gif.

To be honest I bounce back and forth between DSD and PCM. I was convinced that I could not hear a difference between DSD and PCM but at times I use the DSD setting. I only use DSD for stereo SACDs as no bass management is needed. When listening to multichannel SACDs I use PCM then the 4311 does bass management and Audyssey as well. So I would suggest trying both the DSD and PCM settings to see which you prefer.

Is the Denon 4310 even capable of direct DSD to analogue decoding?

If yes, you forego BM and EQ as Bill said and you'd need all 'large' speakers. OK for 2.0.

If no, then does it downsample PCM?

Does it do BM correctly?
