I read this and was shocked. Why did they treat him like this if he bought from authorized dealer? Yes the story is a few years old, but it is still shocking considering how much the brand is praised by many people.

Yes, purchased from authorized dealer...My letter that came in the mail from McIntosh (after my warranty info was sent in) clearly states that they dont cover warranty of any kind if a unit is not purchased over the counter at the store it was sold..No warranty if purchased over the phone and shipped,period...I did contact McIntosh and they said thats the policy,period..I love the amp but as stated they lost me as a future customer,,,period!

If you read the full thread, it is hard to determine what really happened. IMO, I don't think you can say MAC was right or wrong in their opinion, If the Amp was used or not from an authorized dealer I could see why they would deny the claim. The other issue is, under warranty, I would start with the dealer to help (but that is me).

ELvis has left the building!

Come on, give Cat a break. Everyone knows they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true.

Why, I heard Cat is dating a French model. He met her on the internet. Bonjour!

Given how often you talk about their equipment, they should be paying you. biggrin.gif

McIntosh, like lots of other manufacturers, requires their authorized dealers to do lots of stuff, like stock a wide variety of their products, have salespeople who are trained in their product line, have a service department to support the products they sell, etc.  I remember, years ago when I worked for Toyota, there was a distributor in the Caribbean who was "trans shipping" what were called "grey market" cars into the U.S.  These were not "U.S. specification" cars, and were imported as "used", and Toyota refused to honor warranty claims for these cars.  I also know that Kubota had a similar problem.

Years ago I worked in high-end audio dealers which sold & serviced McIntosh equipment, and I'd say they were the best manufacturer for both the dealer and the customer.  I have friends who've purchased Mac equipment and all of them are thrilled with their purchases.

I can't imagine, if you've purchased a unit from an authorized dealer and have followed the warranty procedures (i.e. haven't abused the equipment), that the warranty would not be honored.  I suspect there's more to this story...
