It definitely time to upgrade my ageing Pioneer VSX-D810S. I'm tired of using a HDMI switcher and my wife won't use the projector by herself because of all the cord switching and button pushing it takes to get things right.

I see the Refurbished Denon 1712 on accessories4less.com for $280 and I'm wondering if its right for me or if there is anything out there for the same (<$300) price that would fit me better. I would like it to be compatible with modern blu ray lossless audio formats and be of good sound quality. 7.1 isn't completely necessary, but I would like to have it if possible. The only thing that I can see what it doesn't have is the ability to output component video (from a wii) through the HDMI. It would be really nice to only have to run ONE cord to my projector.

The receiver will be used for Blu ray (HDMI), my HTPC (HDMI), a Wii (component), eventually HD cable TV (HDMI?), and eventually a next gen gaming system (HDMI).

Any other suggestions, or is the 1712 a good buy?

Wow that Wii HDMI adapter looks great. I don't know how I never noticed that before.

I'm still wondering about the 1712. Does anyone have opinions in the $2-300 price range that would beat it?

As it offers the same Audyssey MultEQ XT featured on the mid level Denon and Marantz models, it would be hard to beat at this price point. smile.gif

The Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are the current best audio formats right? I just want to make sure that it has the latest audio processing.

Thanks. I'll order it now. I cant wait to finally have 7.1, an hdmi switcher, and good audio decoding all in one package! Now I just have to figure out some good budget speakers to eventually replace my Sony SS-P5000F towers and SS-B1000 surrounds.
