Just wondering, of these two different room correction setups, which would be better and why?

EDIT... I know it's MCACC....it was a typo...

ceh383, the latest yamaha avr's from the 7xx series on up have multipoint measuring capabilities with reflective sound cancellation. ypao can measure 8 seating posistions just like audyssey. I believe mccac is pretty good too. the only differences is the 2 you mention can not eq subs. however from my research audyssey is not always that good with eq'ing subs. most folks that rant about how good it is never measure the subs and simply assume its good because its audyssey.

Having used both with several receivers I wouldn't use it as a determining factor. Other features would be more important...

What do you mean YPAO does not EQ sub. I have a yamaha RX-3020 and it EQ my sub when I run it. Correct and enlighten me if I am wrong.

Models 2xxx and up do EQ the sub, but not lower models.

I've had two Denon 4520ci's fail on me, so I want to go a different direction.
I'm looking at the Pioneer SC-67 or SC68 and the Yamaha RX-A2010 or RX-A3010.
All of these are over kill for my current needs, however, I would like to somewhat future proof myself for the time being.

At this point I have no interest in Denon/Marantz or Onkyo which leaves me with the above choices.

I have no experience with pioneer receivers but currently I have a yamaha RX-A3020 which replaced a DENON 4311ci. If your concern is room correction, YPAO on higher models including the one you're considering is great. As one who has worked on both Audyssey and YPAO, all I can say is you've got to work at it and either will satisfy you. I have no experience with MACC so I cannot comment on it.

Can't blame you there. 2 fail at that level of receiver...sickening...Hope your next one works out for you.

my apologies i did not realize the high end models did eq the subs...fwiw i was not bashing, i own a 773...i know its inferior to your 3020, but it is all my budget allows. my point is aydyssey is over hyped and one should base thier choice on other features, not just the room correction software.

the 773 is currently on sale at newegg for 480.00. its a solid avr for the money! if you need sub eq, a minidsp can be had for 130.00 shipped.

I hear a lot of reference to Minidsp and heard it works with the REW software, but which kit is available for $130?

While the 773 may be a "solid avr" in my case I think it would be a step backwards. I could get a less expensive AVR for the bedroom and move my 3313ci back to the living room, but that's not the direction I want to go.

I've narrowed it down to the SC-67 or the RX-A3020, I'm going to audition both tomorrow after work and make my decision.

For sub EQ I do have a MiniDSP 2x4 and the 2.1 advanced plugin, as well as a Berhinger 1124p should I need them.

Thanks all for the input...

No need to apologize. My response was not implying that you were bashing . It was more of clarification in case I miss or misunderstand how YPAO works. I did not know that YPAO does not do EQ on lower models. I have always assumed that any receiver with bass management EQ the sub.

how do you like the mini dsp? i was considering either that or a antimode 8033s-11 for dual sub eq'ing duties?

If used with the 2.1 advanced plugin it will do dual, as well as stereo subs. It's small and easy to use, but, it does take some tweaking to get things right. I like it...

After doing much reading last night I was leaning heavily towards the Yamaha RX-A3020, but at 18-3/8" deep it won't fit in my entertainment cabinet.
So, it looks like I will end up going with a Pioneer SC-67, which is still 3/4" deeper than the 4520.

My wife likes the cabinet we have so I can't change it....And for some reason she said no to me taking a sawzall to the back of it to make the Yamaha fit rolleyes.gif
