I just bought a house and am in the process of setting up the Family room. I am no beginner when it comes to A/V, however, I am also not a true audiophile. Lastly..I like to try and keep a budget.
So, I wil lhave a 70" LED TV surrounded by Golden Ear's new SuperSat 60's (LCR) with four Sonance in-ceilings for side/rear surrounds.

My issue is updating my old Denon AVR receiver that has no HDMI input. At first I was looking at the Onkyo line..but have seen too many "issues" that have turned me off. My budget is under $1000. So, based off my research both the Yamaha & Denon have gotten for the most part..good reviews. I need the concurrent second HDMI output to push the A/V from my Family Rom Cabcle box out to my poolside Lania TV.

Since my wife and son will be using this...I like the Airplay (we are an Apple family smile.gif )...and the internet radio.

Can some of you assist me in my decision please? biggrin.gif

TIA - Your time and words are of value to me.cool.gif

Hi ArmyChief

Of those two I would get the Denon and that's saying something since I am a fan of Yamahas! I would go for an Onkyo TX-NR818 over either of those boxes tho. Better room correction and much more grunt. The current Onkyos seem to not have as many probs as previous generations so I wouldn't let reliability be a deciding factor if it was me (not guaranteeing any particular option won't break tho). Even better would be the TX-NR1010 which some guys on the official owners thread have found for less than your budget cap. It weighs more than twice as much as the RX-A830.

I would consider the 1010 if I could find it for less smile.gif

One of my best mates recently got a 1010 and was also frustrated by the lack of Airplay until I pointed out that the Onkyo WiFi control app available for iPhone or android can stream music from your phone very easily.

Try onecall for a deal

I believe there was a deal for some open box units but that must have expired.

Accessories4less have some closer to your budget...

The Onkyo will support Airplay, you just need to buy a DS-A5 for $200 frown.gif
