I have a Denon 2309CI with the various peripherals (Comcast cable box, PS3, Wii, etc) and a basic 5.1 system, and I use a Harmony 880 remote to control it all. Today my wife turned the tv on to watch cable and said she wasn't getting any sound, so she opened the receiver menu under devices on the remote and "hit a few buttons" which "didn't work" so she just turned everything off and didn't watch any tv today. I got home and turned the tv on and everything worked normally watching cable.

Turned the PS3 on to watch a streaming movie from the computer (which we've done countless times with no problems), and the audio is messed up. The opening jingle plays when I first start up the PS3, however I get no sound while flipping through the menus on the PS3. When I play a file, I get the drone of the bass through the sub, but no audio at all from the rest of the speakers. This was the case for several files, all of which have played fine before.

I assume that some setting was inadvertently changed on the receiver, but I can't figure out what to adjust. Any ideas?

On the front panel (see below), press the INPUT MODE button until the front panel display reads "Auto".

Thanks alot for the reply... when I hit the Input Mode button it appears that it was already on Auto mode, and cycling through the options doesn't seem to make a difference.

When I'm streaming content on the ps3 and put the receiver in Dolby PLII Cinema mode, I'm only getting sound out of the center channel. When I put it into Stereo mode I get nothing (except bass from the sub).

Watching cable with the receiver displaying "Dolby Digital", I'm also only getting sound out of the center channel.

So somehow the front L/R speakers got "turned off" somehow? I wish I understood this stuff better... any help is appreciated.

Well looks like I finally fixed it with a little tinkering... I don't fully understand what the problem was, but I pushed the "speakers" button on the front of the unit and now I'm getting sound out of the front L/R speakers.

The Speakers setting changes the output to "A", "B", or "A+B" so if you don't have any speakers connected to the "B" speaker posts, you won't get any audio when on that setting.
