What is your budget? What are you trying to get out of the receiver? What is important to you? What speakers is it going to be hooked up to? What kind of listening environment? Have you listened to any of the receivers? Because of the different approaches to amp designs and what not, the different manufacturers will have subtle differences in the way their amps sound. So a lot of times specs become irrelevant and usually people end up setting up camp with what they prefer. I.e. brand a amp x sounds warmer than brand b amp y.... Figure out the questions above, then armed with that give the amps a decent listen to and see if you lean on one more than another.

okay so my budget is about 350 for receiver haven't decide on speaker yet but once i figure out which receiver to get ill decide on speaker to go with the amp so i can get the best from both the amp an speakers, as for room size its a small to medium living room an im looking into a 5.1 system mostly for music an movie an nothing to over powering i want to get a nice clean sound

Don't get the Sony DH540. I dont' like Sony entry level receivers. Don't get the Denon 1513 either. No Audyssey room calibration. The Yamaha 373 and 375 do not have networking for streaming Pandora, internet radio, etc. Neither do the Sony 540 and Denon 1513.

Of the receivers you listed I'd opt for the Denon AVR-1713 first. Then the 1613 which I actually own. After that the HTR-4065.

To recap

Denon AVR 1713
Denon AVR 1613
Yamaha RX-V4065

And none of the others...

One thing I look for is if there is enough of the right kind of inputs. If you have a lot of components to hook up, especially if some are analog, look for a receiver that you'll be able to hook everything up the way you want and have a couple of extra inputs for future growth.

I would also look for not only auto-calibration, but a receiver with Audyssey MultEQ XT.

I'm partial to Denon. I currently have the 3808ci. I just looked at their site and the 1913 is on sale for $30 more than the 1713.

Hope this helps.

If you aren't scared of a factory refurb the Denon 1712 might be a good choice. It's got the the Audyssey MultEQ XT and some other nice features and no Pandora, Netflix, etc. I've got one on the way now to replace a brand new (refurb) 1312 my buddy is going to buy off me for cost. The 1312 sounded great with my Energy RC Micro 5.1 and the 1712 will sound even better because of the EQ.

Total coat is under $700 for the AVR and the speakers.
