Sony Vs. Harman/Kardon

I currently have a HK AVR 3600, but recently bought a Sony STRDH750 for dirt cheap. Bought it for a spare bedroom, but was wondering if it's better than my AVR 3600.

AVR 3600: http://www.harmanaudio.com/refurbish...VR+3600-Z.html

STRDH750: http://store.sony.com/7.2-ch.-4k-a-v...er-Electronics

Speakers they will be powering,

L/R speakers: Klipsch RB-61

Center: Klipsch RC-52

Surrounds: Sony SS-B3000

I would lean to the HK. I had a
Sony AVR years ago that went into
Protect mode with my very efficient
Infinity speakers when I cranked them.

I sold the Sony and bought an HK. Big
Improvement...no more protect mode.

It is MY OPINION that Sony avr's have
Weak amps.

YMMV and since your have both you
Can give them each a shot.

^ Thanks for your response. I'm leaning towards keeping my HK, but i'm curious what the difference in power will be. The Sony is rated at 145 watts x 7 and my HK is rated at 80 watts x 7.

Sorry, the way Sony published those specs is a
Joke and quite frankly very Misleading.

The 145 you quote is a spec with 1(one) Channel driven
Into a 6ohm load. The 6 ohm test inflate the figure by
About 40%. Most speakers are 8ohm. They also test at
One frequency (1Khz) this happens to be the easiest freq
To drive, with practically no load on the amp.
An honest test would have been done using a full freq response.
(Like the HK) (20Hz to 20Khz into 8 ohm load)

So how many watts do you think the Sony actually puts out?

According to its spec sheet,

Power Consumption : 240 W

So you aren't going to get more than that out of it continuously.

I'd guesstimate 2 channels at 100W with 40W for the overhead to run the rest of the device.

Which is close to the specification:

6ohms, 20-20kHz, 2ch driven : 90 W + 90 W / (0.09%)
6Ohms, 1kHz, 2ch driven : 105 W + 105 W

I'll be back later...

The HK has a power consumption of 120 watts at idle and 1405 max.

I'm anxious to compare the two.
