I'm looking for advice on a new Home Theater setup. The room is 20' x 18' and prime listening is about 13' from the tv. My budget started at under $1000 but now I would like to keep it under $2000.
I was originally looking at the Onkyo HT-S9400THX 7.1-Channel Network A/V Receiver/Speaker Package because it was rather inexpensive and appeared to be a great deal ($775). The only home theater system I have had was a Home theater in a box sony system, which I thought was great. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to a good audio system, but after scouring these forums and other resources I have pretty much scrapped the HIB idea.
I heard good things about Onkyo receivers until I read more and more about the hardware issues with them. I am now looking at a Denon AVR-2313CI ($599) and Pioneer SC-1222-K ($579) as well as any other recommendations from anyone here. If I can keep the receiver around $600 then I could get some good quality speakers such as the Klipsch RF-42II Home Theater Bundle-FREE BIC Acoustech PL-200 and add RB-41 II for back surround.
Denon vs. Pioneer
They both look great to me, considering my last receiver was a 15 year old sony.
Both are 7.2 channel. Denon appears to have the advantage in power output, I believe?
I do have a 2nd tv that I use outside occasionally so the 2nd hdmi out on the Denon could be beneficial. However, I currently use a hdmi splitter for this that works fine. Not sure if that would work coming out of the receiver. Can the 2nd hdmi out on the Denon show a different picture or do the 2 hdmi outs have to use the same source?
Audyssey MultEQ XT vs MCACC. I am not familiar with these, but I read the audyssey set up was easier. Is there a big difference that should sway my decision? No sub eq with MCACC?
Denon 3 year warranty, Pioneer 1 year.
Pioneer has D3 amplification and runs cool and quiet.
The pioneer boasts it is made for you and your ipad with airplay and using apple device as a remote. Nice perk but not necessary. Also, Denon appears to have the same thing.
I'm sure there are some differences that I am missing and any input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions!
