Need to replace my Marantz SR7001 (goes into protect mode now and then, had it checked, but no avail). All I will use the new AVR for will be TV and BLU-RAY only. What do you guys suggest? Thanks

My current setup is as follows:
(2) Rear WH 2 series Wharfedales
(1) Energy CC10 center
(2) Sound Dynamics RTS-P100 powered speakers (towers)
Marantz SR7001 AV receiver
Velodyne SPL-1500R sub

KRP500M Pioneer plasma
PS3
Dish satellite receiver

Have you checked all your speaker wiring to ensure there are no loose strands touching another post? Any wire run through the walls which could have be cut but a nail? Is the unit well ventilated or stuck inside a cabinet? If you do replace the unit, upgrade to at least a MultEQ XT unit. Budget?

If your front speakers are powered then you'll need a receiver with preouts. Pretty much every Marantz receiver at least has front preouts.

Do you care about networking?

I replaced all wires with 12 awg and banana plugs, but that's not the problem. Plenty of ventilation etc. I just noticed that I have had the crossover set at 100, it has been like that for 1 yr plus. I changed the crossover to 80 yesterday. I wonder if that was/is the problem??

A crossover of 100hz shouldn't cause your receiver to go into protect mode. That's actually less taxing on the receiver than a 80hz setting. But that receiver should perform well at either setting.

So what happened when you changed the setting?

I just changed it last night.....so time will tell. I dont feel like spending another $500-$800 for another receiver. Its probably happened 10 times in the past few months. When it happens, its just for a second or two. I guess I can live with that.......maybe

Lowering the crossover increases the probability of the unit going into Protection mode.

All feature the same version of Audyssey MultEQ XT, so select the model that best meets your feature/input/output needs.
