This is the one I just bought..

It says:

5 ch amp and 7.1 ch pre-amp processing,

Previous model, NR1601.
Number of Channels 7ch Amp. 7.1ch Processing

Next model, 1603.
Number of Channels 7.1 Channels

Final model, NR1604.
Number of Channels 7.1 Channels

So did they make a typo? I can't see a 7.1 receiver only having 5 amplification channels.

Just a typo .... should say "7 CH amp with 2.1 CH pre-amp processing"

Think you have a defective AVR? Owner's manual - Factory reset 4-5 times in a row.
