Let me start out these questions by saying up front that I'm a retired (thus on a fixed SS income and with limited funds) 65-year-old A/V sub-novice with Attention Deficit Disorder (NOT a joke, and no joke to live with, either). Over the past year, I've been collecting various A/V devices, and here's the list
Denon AVR-3312CI A/V Receiver
Cisco Digital Cable Box Model RNG150N
Roku 3
Model 4200R
Panasonic Viera TV
Model TC-L42E50
Panasonic Blu-Ray Player
Model DMP-BD75
Panasonic All-Region/All-Code DVD Player
Model DVD-S68
Magnavox DVDR and VCR w/Digital Tuner
Model ZV457MG9
Oh, yeah -- an original-model Wii, too (not WiiU)
and last, but certainly not least, as it's my current PITA and most pressing difficulty, a Logitech Harmony 300 programmable remote.
For a while, I thought I wasn't going to be able to afford an HDTV, and I was going to hang on to my old-but-still-amazing-picture-quality Panasonic 27" CRT, but an unexpectedly healthy tax refund decided me on the Panasonic Viera TC-L42E50, especially as it's made with the same screen technology -- and indeed, the same screen manufacturer -- as my 27" Apple iMac. Almost all the other items I snagged when they were "Daily Deals" on Amazon. When I was still broke, I bought the Logitech Harmony 300, as it's four-device capability I thought (at the time) would meet my needs. I stared at this pile of gear for six months, waiting for my incredibly tech-savvy son-in-law to visit from Kansas City, which he did a couple weeks ago, and connected everything up, including a motley but really excellent array of speakers:
a pair of all-original and perfect-after-all-these-years 1979 DCM Time Window 1s (not even 1As)
DCM Sub-712 sub (Front firing 8", bottom firing 12" passive radiator, B&K 70w amp)
Yamaha NS-C90 center
and, temporarily, a pair of Pinnacle PN-2 rears
My Denon problem:
I have the same problem as someone else here who has a hard time hearing dialogue, because if we turn the Denon receiver down enough, running in simple 2ch stereo mode or powering off the Denon subwoofer so the bass doesn't scare our dog (he was rescued from a massive thunderstorm in TN, and is still under-the-bed-afraid of low frequency noise), we can't hear dialogue. I have the Denon AVR-3312CI 157-page pdf manual, but I cannot figure out how to set individual speaker levels. If I could, I'd boost the Yamaha Center Speaker level so we didn't have to turn up the overall volume just to hear what people are saying -- and it's even worse in any of the Dolby or surround modes. I watched my son-in-law messing with individual speaker volumes, but it was while he was setting the speaker array up with the Denon Audyssey DM-A409 Microphone individual speaker tone set-up. I cannot figure out how to access those individual speaker volumes without going through the whole 5- or 7-pass Audyssey speaker tone set-up, which is only slightly more an enjoyable prospect than cutting off a couple fingers.
So can someone tell me how I can get into the INDIVIDUAL channel settings to boost the Yamaha center channel speaker?
